    Howdy folks,

Looking to get a deck boat as it'll be perfect for the lakes surrounding columbia and can go to the Upstate and do well there as well.

    Outboard or Inboard/Outboard?

    Im thinking outboard.

Outboards are all the rage these days. They are solid, reliable and easy to service.

Fantastic. i suspected this would be the case. Thanks for the response. Me and the wife will be looking for something this fall in the 10-15K range and outboard motor equipped deck boats are rare. Doesn't help i dont really know where to look for boats in general lol.

Tough time to be buying a boat honestly. Market is super hot (like everything else).

Why a deck boat? Have you considered a TriToon? We love ours.

I like the look of the speedboat with the utility of a pontoon/tritoon.

it's a sorta jack of all trades sorta boat. Which is my philosophy with purchases.

yeah the market is stupid hot. I dont plan on buying until next year or late this year in the fall. Hopefully by then the prices will cool

Best time to buy any boat is after Jan1st AT A BOATSHOW. All boat manufacturers (except maybe Allison) give deep discounts during the days of a boatshow and only during these days. Because of these deep discounts fully 25-40% of all boat sales occur during a boat show. DO NOT purchase a new boat at any other time. Said the guy who has been in the boat business twice.

I have to admit I don’t know much about deck boats, I thought the performance and efficiency wasn’t great compared to a TriToon. I guess I never really looked into them that much. I’m sure it’ll be fun!

I bought mine off the showroom floor in February because it was available. I could sell it for $10k more than I paid but that’s because of this weird market.

I bought mine Feb 27th off the showroom floor, but only because I walked two weeks earlier. They called me back and caved. I knew the pricing was that of the boatshow. And they caved only because I had previously sold the Kenner line, and knew the profit they had in it, so I knew they could do the deal if they really wanted to. Wise is the sales manager who knows you can't hit a homerun every time, and that more games are won playing small ball and bunting your way on.

Same here on the ludicrous pricing of late. In 2005 I paid $16,020 out the door for a Kenner 18V130 w 90 Merc and Motorguide trolling motor. Equivalent boats are now $35K+. Kenners are rare as hen's teeth, especially ones that have been garage kept. I've been offered what I paid, but what am I going to fish out of then?

I have a rule in my boat that guarantees maximum enjoyment of the time out on the water: Phones are turned off. You'd be surprised at the people who didn't think they'd like that. At first. You are going to have much more fun if EVERYONE is in the moment.

Best time to buy a NEW boat: Boatshow.

Best time to buy a USED boat: Sept to Dec, from a well-motivated seller who needs the money to buy a new boat...IN JANUARY! At the boatshow!

Best time to SELL a used boat: Jan-March, when boatshow buyers get sticker shock and can't afford a new boat, or CAN'T GET FINANCED at the price point of a new boat. Then lucidity sets in and they start thinking...USED boat! Many people pull their used boat into the parking lots outside these boatshows and wait for potential buyers to come out the door, leaving the show.

BEST BOAT ON THE WATER RIGHT NOW: Any configuration of a 19-foot Blue Wave center console bay boat, with a 150-175hp on the back. It will do anything you need to do on the water. It will not depreciate. Like money in the bank. Don't believe me? Try buying a used one!

Whatever you do, ask, "Is this a hand-laid hull or a chopper-gun (blown-in) hull?" Do not buy a chopper-gun boat. Hand ROLLED is not the same as hand-LAID. Composite transoms only.

New a boatshow is the best place to buy a boat? If so thats fine. I dont want a brand new boat. I have a budget of around 15K Max for something clean and taken care of.

If i have to wait 3 years for that i will. I hear boats are money pits, but i believe folks buy on their feelings instead of what potential issues their boat could have.

That Kenner is superrr clean. I actually started looking for one intially but i like the idea of seats in the front and rear like a pontoon or deckboat/bowrider would have

Unless Kenner made Deck Boats :spy:

Deck boats are super nice in that you can do so much with them. You can crappie fish off the front in the morning, then ski and tube with the kids during the day. Heck with campsites now $30 a night I'd sleep on one if I had one! I sleep in the hammock in the Kenner now! A deck boat with all that room would be luxurious. There are not too many of them around, so you will need to be patient, save your money and be vigilant. Check BoatTrader every morning. GO to the lake and look around at the marinas. If you see one you like go up and introduce yourself, give the guy your business card and ask him to call you when the day comes he wants to sell it. Good things come to those who wait! There is a good used one out there for you. Good Luck!
