They are built like half the Jeep’s here in Georgia. We call them road princesses.

Is this a Hawaii thing? some look ok, others not. I don’t see many Toyota’s like this, but lots of Jeep’s, Chevy, fords in Georgia.

Seems like every full size truck where I’m from in Georgia is on 6” DB and 6” blocks lol. Maybe sprinkle a little body lift as extra precaution

The body is about 6 miles up in the air, but is the differential lifted that much? Can't tell from all the pics but it doesn't look like it. This is to the untrained in off-road eye point of view mind you.

Oh man you are tapping into like a pretty interesting array of Toyota enthusiasts in the state of Hawaii. In my opinion this is my main takeaways from Hawaii yodas.

lot of people see their Toyota as a big part of who they are in Hawaii (kinda like this forum) - a lot of tail gate cruising and beach time.
mini trucks are a thing there - and it’s awesome.
    22re is king there
Lots of first gen 4 runners straight fronts
    Lots of super swampers
Lots of body lifts on 2wd
    Lots of crazy lifts
You would be surprised the resale of all Toyota’s out there !
a bunch of places to wheel throughout the state, each island has its gems if ya know who can get ya in what gates.
Big island has lots of wheeling and lots of lava rock.
people love to fish and camp in Hawaii there are some awesome rigs out there !
Also lots of rust even on the west side !
Also lots of petty theft on the older stuff like pre 2000’s.

I heard an old tale from a local that they started lifting their trucks high to drive through the tall sugar cane fields with all the water and whatnot. Eventually came the fancy wheels etc but who knows

This style originated in the 90s. We grew up around this style watching the generation b4 us build their trucks this way. The sky high lift with swampers on wide rims are a proportion in itself that we actually like to see and strive for. We don’t necessarily build um strictly for function although many out there are definitely capable of going where any truck goes. And not all of the ones built sky high are pavement princesses. My fam takes all ours in the mountain and on the beach. We keep our trucks clean as possible, but not scared to go anywhere. As for function: the lift keeps the body above saltwater, the wide tires make it easier to float on our soft sand without wasting time airing down n airing up(in n out), and the wide stance helps to straddle deep ruts. BTW, I am not a fan of the newer HI style rubberband lowpros on 4wd with powder coated frames. I think those are lame n useless. We like ours with 15” rims n super swampers. but ultimately, I just keep my mouth closed because people can do whatever they want with their money. I have my style, they have theirs

Florida style below. This definitely demonstrates some difference between Hawaii style and Florida style:

Probably not in Hawaii based on the trees, but deserves an honorary mention as its Hawaii style through and through:

The big island is loaded with offroad mountains, beaches, and country. I bet the people of Hawai'i camp, go beach, and play outdoor sports more than any mainlander, especially Canadians. You guys probably curl up in your bed in a gas heated house half of each year. Guys like you get cracks in Hawai'i.

I just got back from Maui recently and was very surprised at the amount of lifted Tacomas. Many of them looked nice and functional, but didn't seem to be for much more than looks. They were pretty much all in town and at the beach. I didn't see as many when I got out of town and began getting up to elevation or off the beaten path.
