I’ve made such a habit of manipulating the rules that they use to benefit myself it’s not even funny

excluding current situations

I typically will make all of my loan payments in excess of 250$ more per payment per month
And then once I get a 6 month ahead notice telling me I can abstain from making my payments if I want

I refinance all the loans into a new one and start the process over until the loans being utilized are at 10k$ total balance

it boost your score like a mofo and always reflects as an early payoff

USAA specifically HATES this

I got 2600$ check back from them a while back because I paid my loan off so quickly that they had charged me for debt protection fees in the loan for a duration that never existed (5yr loan life, paid off in 2 so I paid 3 years extra of debt protection on the cost of the loan)

 

I’ve been told that from 839-850 has more to do with age and length of credit history than anything else

And supposedly net worth

My dad went through bankruptcy in 2008 like a lot of people and has been feeling it’s effects since

I spent the year of covid helping him arrange his debt correctly and set up his payment rhythm and was able to get him from a 658 up to a 775 so he could get a new car loan

we just got him that new car about a month ago now

 

Since you'll probably be 80 when GME decides to moon I think 850 is pretty realistic. lol

 

That's awesome. I'm sure that was a great feeling. My stepdad was a hard ass on me when I was a teenager when it came to my finances. Making me pay for everything, always making sure I had my checkbook balanced, and made sure I wasn't spending unnecessarily. But now being 31 and debt free and sitting on a nice savings account, I owe him everything and am super appreciative of how he was with me. I don't think I can speak for my other siblings though lol.

Balancing a checkbook. That's a blast from the past. Haven't needed to do that in years. With online banking we can all see real time balances. Hell, when my wife goes grocery shopping I know how much she spent before she even gets home lol

My wife is like that. Always checking the balance and recent activity. I ordered a new iPhone last week and had to pay the taxes upfront. Within 10min she asked me why we made a payment to T-Mobile

 

I’ve gotten money back from the bank before because of being misscharged for shit
Or having things show off leading to my balance not matching my checkbook

went into the bank
Showed them, provided receipts
And gotten refunds

( it mostly happens with loans, they steal money out of your loan payments erroneously on a more common than you think basis )

 

They don't clear but they show pending. Once it's pending it's deducted from total balance.

I've got everything but our water bill set up for auto-pay. I'd have water set up as well but their so fucking archaic that's not an option. So we write 12 checks a year. To figure out our monthly budget I just add all that shit up, account for gas and groceries, then add 20% to the figure. Been working great for 8 years. There's always excess money in checking. After a few months I sneak some of that money over to savings and repeat.

 

I do everything manually because I oddly enjoy it and it’s kind of satisfying. I don’t have anything set up on auto pay because I just like to pay it as soon as I get paid and all my bills are paid for the month right away with the first check I get.

 

Bank of America seems to like me. Just kinda hangs around 830. I re-financed last year and bought the new truck so it got dinged for a bit lol.

 

I’m currently sitting in a dip because of my recent move from TX to Ky after barely recovering from the CA to TX move in January

I remember my PASSBOOK for my savings account in the 80's when I had my paper route....Depositing everything but $5 for years...and then when I was like 13...I began blowing it on baseball cards starting with '88 topps...Wish I bought $AAPL instead...

 

NV energy sent me an alert (and the rest of Reno) to please try to conserve energy between 6 and 9 this evening. I will be happy to do so, NV energy, when you turn all the neon signs off downtown, shut down the slot machines, and flashing lights on the casinos and turn off the digital billboards. Guessing you won't do that though.

 

I'm the opposite. I hate writing checks. lol

As far as utility bills go (cable, electric, phone) those are paid as soon as the billing cycle is done. They are literally cleared from checking before I receive the paper bill.
