What gears are you going with?

 

Today (and yesterday) I chopped off bed bolts to find out why my fuel pump wasnt working, and check out my sick ass frame rust.
Found out why the pump wasnt working.

 

yeah, that would do it. wonder what cut all of the wires like that, if your lucky maybe you can just repair the wiring and get the pump working again.

 

I started a thread trying to figure this out lol. I have 265/65/17 and it currently has 3.58 the old man who bought the truck changed the stock steel 15” 225/75/15 out to some after market enkie wheels I believe and tan Michelin 235/75/15 since about new on it. I just bought the truck and changed the wheels and tires so far. She’s been a garage queen at the mans house and he’s just pampered it, which I am thankful for. These stock 3.58 gears are not even that good with the wheel barrow 225/75/15 much less a 265/65/17.


I don’t know if I will ever lift it, my cousin who is a die hard Toyota man tells me 4.56 but man I just think with a 30.6 tire that’s allot of gear. Check out my post in the general area it explains more.

Toyota rear shock mounts are much bigger than most. Need a bigger bushing and eyelet.

Good if you bash the crap out of your truck. (assuming the welding is all good and such)


Bad if you don't want to replace a lower uniball every year. Because you will have to.

 

Yeah, I thought these looked interesting, but figured that the maintenance would be similar to OEM LBJs, since those uniballs are going to have the same problem that my spherical bearings have on my lower shock mounts - a lot of crap down there to get in them. At the point that you're doing yearly replacements, I figured I might as well just keep replacing my LBJs annually.

 

yeah you'd for sure be replacing them a lot. They are cheaper to replace and wouldn't be that hard to do. But still. 3 sets of LBJs for the cost of those.

 

Just throwing this out there.

My truck started life with 3.58's and the tiny stock tires. When I rebuilt pretty much everything I re-geared on the cheap and used 4.30's from a parts truck I had available to me. I am currently running 285/75r16 tires on this setup. It works great IMO, I get 22 mpg, and the truck does freeway speeds comfortably.

When I decided what gears to use I did a ton of research about what people liked and what worked well. The biggest factor for choosing the right gearing is gonna be the tire size you want to run. If you don't want to use big tires, I would be careful not to over do the gearing.

Does Toyota include the four bolts in the LBJ boxes?

I can’t remember if I replaced mine when I did them 3-1/2 years ago.

 

i've never gotten the bolts with the lowers. always had to be separate

 

Different part numbers; some do and some don't.

Mine did -

 

I bought these parts earlier this year and they included bolts:

• Driver LBJ
  $195 43340-39585 Toyota Ball Joint - 43340-39585

• Passenger LBJ
  $220 43330-39815 Toyota Ball Joint - 43330-39815
  43330-39815

I also ordered bolts, so now I have extras :-(

The LBJ part numbers for 01-04 do not come with bolts. The part numbers for the 2001+ Tacomas are different and come with bolts.

 

Damn. I don’t think I changed mine. I know I added blue loctite but I’m unsure about the bolts.

Oh well.
