You can both hate the system and also begrudgingly acknowledge that you live in the system and need to make the best of it. Not having any sort of credit history will do you vastly more harm than good as you get older.

Hate the man all you want, but if you want to partake of the things in modern society, you're going to need a credit history or just be rich beyond all belief. And then you're still wasting your money, because when you're rich as fuck you're still debt leveraging everything if you're smart.

There's also zero benefit to holding cash. Our currency only has value by the will and might of the US military and the country behind it. Holding cash gives you nothing. You lose to inflation 100 out of 100 times. In a hyperinflation type situation, you'd be better off owning popsicle sticks than cash. Build credit, invest money, become old and jaded with the rest of us.

IMO, war on cash is mostly about traceability. Gov doesn’t like people doing things without their knowledge…or at least their ability to find out about it if they so choose. Also backed by the banks that get to skim cc merchant fees off of just about every transaction that happens.

That said, the arguments for building some credit history are entirely valid. I handle my cc the same way as most people who have responded on here, but keep a stash of cash for personal emergencies. And a stash of things more durable than cash for SHF scenarios.

Cabela’s cc for me. For some reason, I find 1% reward that I have to use there more exciting than 2% cash back that I could spend there but don’t have to. So I’m apparently irrational, so I’d recommend ignoring my advice.

Anyone else remember when carvana was buying up toyotas over dealer prices and everyone thought they were insane or selling them to terrorist organizations? Man they played that one well, almost like they were ready for this new car shortage. Gonna keep an eye on what they do in the future

you sound like you get it. That and pricing out the poor. Good way to keep US on top/ propped up if you can't live here unless you have a bank account with money it, a debit or credit card, a phone with a bank account linked. They recently took a step with this in nyc by not taking cash at the MTA for train tickets unless you go to the machines which never work for cash. Signs of it everywhere if you pay attention

Nope. Don't remember that at all. I feel like if that was a thing I'd have heard about it either through the markets or here on the forum somewhere.

If I didn't know any better (and I probably don't) I'd just chalk that up to domestic supply and demand.

Anyone here with a greenhouse or rather serious garden? Been thinking about doing that as an investment out of the market. Even if it doesn't get me a significant leg up on asset value or shit never hits any fans, seeds are cheaper than buying stuff at the supermarket anyway

Like a year or two ago tons of guys on here were selling their trucks to them after like a month of ownership and pocketing a couple gs off it. Running joke was they were shipping off to the taliban lol. Doesn't sound so crazy with the car market the way it is now

I canceled my Cabela's card a decade ago because it was trash tier in terms of rewards relative to almost every other card on the market. Once Bass Pro bought them out Cabela's went to shit anyways. (Bass pro bought Cabelas largely for the credit card assets)

I'm all about those Chase freedom and Southwest airlines points. $70k a year on the card and I'm A-list + companion pass every year baby.

Do you have a social security number, bank account, facebook, debit card, TW account, school history, driver's license, hunting/fishing license, smart phone, utility bills, pay car insurance, have a mortgage, etc, etc, etc?

    They already know.

    I never claimed otherwise.

But, say...if they were to decide to ban possession of gold bullion again, it'd be a lot easier for them to find out who has some if every purchase of it made comes with a convenient paper trail.

I agree with all of that. And yet...that's still the card I have. Like I said, not great decision making on my part. I'd be looking into that ASO y'all keep talking about if they had any stores around me.

But holy crap, $70k a year on a card?!! Business expenses?

    You’re 100% cash?

How do you make online purchases, pay for hotels, rental cars, etc.?

A CC gives you fraud protection, where a debit won’t in most cases. Plus, a debit id direct line into your bank account, where fraud can easily wipe the whole thing clean, leaving you responsible for the charged.

    100% correct.

Costco rewards card for me. I use the cash back for tires or lately, my new Traeger.

Real life example of the difference….

Friend of mine had a couple grand in fraud on his debit card. Wiped his balance out just as a few scheduled bill payments went out (utilities, phone, etc). All of which bounced, resulting in NSF fees and a great big cluster. He spent hours and hours on the phone getting it sorted out while also scrambling to get the bills paid.

I had an instance of fraud on a credit card. Issuer contacted me, I said those two charges weren’t mine, the others were. They removed the charges and sent me a new card. Done.

I don’t carry the debit card attached to my bank account.

No need for it for me.

… but I get it that there are folks who are still working on the discipline to not buy stuff they don’t have the money for, and who therefore avoid credit cards as a way to help build that discipline.
