If you want to do the tune yourself, what all is needed?

Check out the bottom of post number 1 before the reviews...I was thinking about learning how to do this too. I already got mine tuned but would like to know how to tweak it on my own.

So really the 350 kit ans then 100 for the tune? Plus a laptop correct. Is there anything special needed in a laptop or just as long as it has a USB?

I have a six inch lift with 35’s and SLT is perfect. Gets those big hogs rolling forward nicely!

Not really surprised but still shitty. I get his struggle, it's a constant battle. Making your software/system more robust is one way to deal with it or you can just further limit the capabilities and flexibility of the already sold software to screw those that are playing by the rules.

Well that kinda bites. I recall pretty clearly statements about being able to tune as many vehicles as you want after buying the tune pack. I haven’t tuned anybody other than my truck. But I have a buddy and we’ve talked about tuning his. Looks like I’d have to step up to pro level to do that. That’s not going to happen. :(

To me it’s akin to using a sledgehammer on a mosquito. Really putting the boots to legitimate tuning enterprise.

I have a 17, so no ACC, but I have noticed that since @NickJacq23 tuned mine, my cruise control feels like it is smoother (even though I was assuming that CC was locked out per my conversation). Still a little jumpy at times, but I find myself using it more, now that it doesn't seem to shift as much.

I am trying to program my 2021 with an updated KDMAX tune that Kreg provided recently and am getting the following message in vF Tuner...

    vF Tuner version 1.2.9.9.5
    Prepare ECU
#Connection timeout exceeded 10 sec. Please try again later.

Can anybody tell me if this is something on my end or something with the vF Tuner server?

    Thanks for any help.

I would first recommend upgrading you VFTune version to the 1.3. Then make sure you have internet turned on. Prepare your ECU. Select the calibration file and Calibrate your ECU.

For those that have, it might be helpful to openly address the reasons why they didn't and not just get told it's a performance tune or to seek a prius if you want mileage gains, etc. I watch and see a lot of the banner ads for this tune promoting MPG increase, so its only right to expect that in addition to the performance gains and not be slapped with a "that's not what it's for" afterwards if you didn't.

For me, coupled with the growth to 33" tires, the tune reduced me by about 3-4 miles/gallon. Yes it drives great, but that's a big hit if you're an avid tripper like myself.

My question is, could you explain why re-flashing might do something differently to the vehicle if it perhaps did not take well the first time? I'm unfamiliar with this aspect. Thank you in advance to anyone that can weigh in.

I've had OVTune since September 2017, but I don't have KDMax. I have stock tires. But if you've increased your tire size (diameter) you are actually traveling farther than what your odometer indicates. Don't forget to account for that when doing your MPG calculations.

IIRC you had upgraded to 33” AT tires just a day or two before flashing your truck to kdmax. This alone is going to drop your mileage 2-3mpg, no tune is going to overcome that unfortunately.
