Magnuson Supercharger Mega Thread for 16+ Tacoma - Unboxing, Install DIY, Dyno Video

I bought one and have no regrets but when a fueling kit with pulley and software is available I'll be ready

 

I wonder if Magnuson would be willing to do a simple gear lock mod. That might satisfy many out there that are frustrated with auto shifting on the SC.

 

To anyone that installed a wideband, where is the best location to weld a bung for the sensor?

 

How did you guys torque the the crank pulley bolt? I tried holding it with rubber strap but that’s a no go. I have a impact gun that has max torque of 210ft-lb that I used. But torque spec is 204ft-lb.

 

I used a 3/4" drive heavy equipment torque wrench - it had a 3ft handle. Took two people to do the job. Placed a steel bar in the oem pulley sprocket gap of the lower passenger side and let it pinch up against the side of the engine - held it up-in-place while other person torqued to 200 plus ft/lb. Some just us the impact gun - my air impact gun would not do the job - I hear the electric ones 18V and higher have been used. I did borrow an electric to remove the bolt as the air would not do the job. Think it was Milwaukee 18V. GL.

 

My torque doesn’t go that high, but my I do have a Milwaukee impact 18v. Specs on it say the max torque is 210ft-lb so I gave it with that. I did have some hondabond and put some on the bolt thread. Hopefully it doesn’t come loose.

 

3/4” drive torque wrench + large strap wrench + 2 more hands. Here’s a link to the strap wrench I used:

If you don’t have help the impact gun is your only option. Even with two people, it’s a real bear to get 204 ft/lbs on it.

 

Thanks guys... so I’m about to install the cage ever and i noticed the the plug that was connected to the original manifold won’t have a spot. I scrolled to a few pages to make sure I didn’t miss anything but all it says is to tape and zip tie. So do I just forget about it?

I scrolled ahead and don’t see it will be used. Just making sure don’t want to try and get my hand back i there

After spending the whole weekend installing this kit I finally got to test drive today. I still have to give it a few miles before I can fully floor it, but I can feel the torque.

I gave it one last inspection and all was looking good until I noticed a small drip of oil near the oil filter housing. Grrrr. I took my time installing and torquing every bolt and making sure every gasket was on right. WTH! Leaking between the oil cooler and spacer.

 

You sure it’s leaking? Something may have dripped during assembly?

 

I’d clean it and recheck before doing anything else.

 

Mine had a little seep there also that came back after cleaning. I just gave each bolt a tiny little more ugga and it stopped.

 

I was able to get a wrench to that bolt only and give it a 1/16 of a turn. So barley any, not enough space. I’ll double check when later this afternoon. I’ll spray around with brake cleaner to make sure and triple check. I don’t want to go back in there.

 

Did I read somewhere it's a tight fit to get a torque wrench in there? Did you have enough room?
I've been eyeing a new Makita for some time. If I order up this SC it would be a perfect excuse to upgrade.

You have plenty of room once fan and shroud is out. You can fit a torque wrench just fine. It’s holding the pulley to be able to torque it to 204ft-lb that’s hard.

I have a compact Milwaukee 3/8 drive impact that puts it out 210ft-lb and I used that to tighten the bolt. That makita might be to much power to tighten it but good to break loose the oem bolt maybe.

 

I'm wondering if you had the transfer case in 4Lo and the trans in reverse (manual) you'd be able to torque it tight enough without the pulley (crank) spinning?

Just thinking out loud here.

 

You’ll have to make sure 4lo will engage but maybe for Manuel people. I put a little Honda bond that I had on the thread just for ease of mind.
