Sorry for your loss. Every time we lose a pet I say I won't get another, then I do. The only thing that may keep me from getting one in the future is our age. I would hate to have to have a pet who lived with us for years have to go to a stranger's house. My grandson volunteered at the local animal shelter a few years ago and there were a number of old dogs in there whose owner had passed or was in a long term home. These poor old dogs were generally unwanted. That really tore at my heart.

Looking at the Viszlas they have the exact shaped head as my GSP. They must have a similar background.

State rules where I live maintain that when on trails all dogs need to be leashed unless they are hunting dogs. There is nowhere on this Island where you are officially allowed to unleash your pet out in the open, sucks.

man, I am so jealous of all of you with German Shepherds and Belgian Malnois!! I have been 3 years w/o a GSD now after 30+ with many of them...don't have enough space for one right now, but that will hopefully change in 2 years when we move out

love all the other doggies too, but GSD's and Siberian Huskies are my favs!!!

and definitely agree w/ leashes on at all times...especially in public places and BIKE TRAILS for the love of God!!! Have seen so many dogs get run over/hit b/c they darted out into, or across, or over a trail. It is NOT the bikers fault if a dog gets hit, regardless of the law. The Law of Common Sense says that bikers are more predictable than dogs, so the dogs should be under control first...I just hate seeing animals get hurt b/c the owners don't think and prepare

We tried getting on an adoption wait list for a Siberian back in Colorado, way too complicated - would have been easier to adopt a human!

GSPs, Weimaraners, and Vizslas all come from the same background, I couldn't tell you the entire history, but they are similar breeds!
