Def do not buy a helmet cuz its cheap. Don't get me wrong, don't break the bank, either. I had a pretty bad crash and I had a huge gash on my helmet right above my ear. One inch lower that rock would have gone through my skull.

You hope to God you never have to need a helmet, but when you do, you'll be thankful you did.

I’d go to a local bike shop and see what fits. Any decent shop will carry reputable brands. If you want to get technical you can go off the Virginia tech ratings.

Heh! I just bought the exact same helmet! It's easily the best helmet I've owned. It flows massive amounts of air! Plus the safety features, beyond the "don't shoot me in the head blaze orange" color are pretty fantastic. Like the medical ID chip.

For helmets here is my list of what I look for:
    1. Fit - It should fit snug without being buckled and shouldn't move if you shake your head about.
    2. Coverage - comes down low at the back of the head without exposing the forehead
    3. MIPS/SPIN/etc.
    4. Dual zone/impact foam
Currently I use the Giro Tyrant on most rides but also have a TLD A2 that use for XC rides. Most top tier helmets are about $150-200 which in the grand scheme of $$$$ bikes is nothing.

Also, if you crash or drop your helmet from high up (like off your roof rack to pavement) you should replace it.

Yea, it's shorter but it's sooo much more bang for your buck IMO. It's steep and technical and way less busy than the Mill D/Millcreek options. Dropping in to Canyons for Redcoat-Insurgent-Ricochet is a good time, but that's a totally different end-point. I really like steep/old school/alpine/chunky descents though, so YMMV?!

Most companies recommend a 5-8 year shelf life. The concern is that the foams can harden up over time and not provide the same impact protection. As for recs just find something that fits from a reputable brand and that has MIPS (or similar). I have the Fox Speedframe Pro and really like it. It also tested highly in the Viginia Tech Helmet Ratings

So I called about a personal rider on my insurance for some equipment I have and it's 1% of market value for a years coverage. Of course bikes unless you just bought it and have receipt will have to be appraised, but do any of you guys insure your bikes? These are also zero deductible plans at that 1%.

I didn't ask if the personal rider could be made for bikes, just starting conversation in this dead thread lol.

Some carriers will have limits for bikes $1000 or 2500 max. A few will cover bikes without being scheduled on the policy up to Coverage C limit ( which is personal property). Best to check with your carrier to see what the limit is on sporting goods.

Adding a personal article floater for a bike or anything high value for that matter is always the best bet if you want to be sure you are covered properly.

If you have any questions. Drop me a line.... been doing insurance for past 15 years or so... :violent:

I added "bike insurance" to my renter's policy through lemonade. Standard renters insurance only covers up to $2500 with my policy.

I added my bike as an additional "valuable item" They cover the entire cost of my bike for 17$ a month.. + deductable. When I talked to them, they said if you can provide receipts you can add just about anything to the list for an additional cost.
