Bear with me, im gonna rant for a sec.

We took the GF's t4r up to URE yesterday for the first time and had a great time. Road some FSR's, went down to the river and did Wolfsden and Falls Dam. This was not my first trip up there, however it was the first time that i had something dawn on me that legit changed my attitude towards the entire day....read on. For the longest time Wolfsden has been advertised as URE's easiest trail, the get your feet wet trail, the trail that you can do and then make the call if you wanna try your luck somewhere else.

We entered the trailhead, i put it in 4lo and locked the rear end. We weren't there to chew up tires and bounce it off the limiter. Like i said we did wolfsden and falls dam and never spun a tire, other than the dust we didnt even get dirty, but i dont see how Wolfsden can be advertised as URE's easiest trail anymore. From what i saw yesterday Falls was much easier that wolfsden and it took me a few minutes to figure out why.

We stopped to get out and stretch our legs where wolfden opens up and you can take the exit to the right. We saw the usually A- holes in side by sides come by. But then something caught my ear, i turned and looked back down the trailhead and saw smoke and smelled the ever pungent smell of burnt rubber. What i saw next really pissed me off, it was a built JL rubi and 37's or 40's in 2wd literally attacking every obstacle like he was on the Rubicon. Digging the trail out, throwing rocks...literally making an ass out of himself, especially when we had just gone through there is stock t4r with a set of ko2's.

I pondered what i saw for a few minutes and came to the conclusion that this particular guy likes riding around in his jeep. he likes his big tires and the blue kings in the wheels wells. im sure he loves telling people it was built not bought and that its a jeep thing and i probably wouldn't understand...but see thats where hes wrong. i do understand.

This guy could literally do every trail at URE and prob not even break a sweat. If he truly intended to use it the way he built it, Windrock is probably more fitting. But instead he chooses to thrash the living hell out of it on the "easiest trail" there and then proceeds to fist bump his bros like he just like climbed Everest. The trails get tore up more than they should and kinda ruins it for 75% of other people on 33's and mild lifts. After the trail gets raped people find themselves in a spot that dont feel comfortable with and a bypass gets made. And we can all agree on how we feel about bypasses.

Im well aware the people spin, ruts get made and over time certain sections get harder, thats not my issue. My issue is the dude on 40's acting like a jack ass to impress his bros b/c he doesnt have the common decency to act like he has any common sense. People like that ruin it for the majority of others and ultimately in my opinion get places shut down.

    Rant over. :frusty:

People are dumb. I lump those into the same category as the ones who refuse to air down. I never got the whole rock bounce evrey obstacle (wet trail aside) style wheeling.

That’s just retarded, like most Jeepers are (it’s a Jeep thing you wouldn’t get it).

I did Wolf Den in 2wd and full air pressure. Didn’t give me any fuss what so ever.

I never understood the whole wheel spin concept of crawling. It's not a mud bog, back up and hit it quicker if you need to but just to sit there and spin wheels in one spot just screams amateur.

Next thing you know, trail is clogged with yet another broken rig. Jeeps seem to be the biggest offenders only because there are more of them but there are people that fit that profile in every category of vehicle.

The reason they will tell you is that they are "heating up thier tires so they grip", after they saw it on a KOH live stream. The reality is they suck at line picking and smoking the tires on their 190hp shit pile didn't really do anything.

In my 21yrs if wheeling I also noticed there is a whole subset of wheelers that really truly enjoy wrenching on their junk in the woods or parking lot. When they hear a part snapping sound they genuinely get excited. Me f that, I don't even like turning wrenches in my garage.

I guess my main issue is not necessarily what he was doing(although i dont conduct myself that way) but where he was doing it. You wanna bounce yourself up the front side of Daniel or Dickie? sure, knock yourself the hell out. But not on the "easiest trail " there. You wanna go climb big rocks? then go climb big rocks. But dont make little rocks, big rocks by running around in 2wd and beating the skinny pedal like it owes you money.

It was just a frustrating thing to see. Kind of disheartening in a way, makes you wonder how long the place can stay viable when people act like that and do things destructive so belligerently.

I started wheeling with jeeps back in the early 2000s and I am so glad I missed the whole naming your Jeep and decaling it on the hood. I would have named it something like "Christ puncher" knowing my college aged self LOL

As some of you know, I'm friends with and "wheel" with some jeepers. Yes I totally make fun of them for the whole "themed jeep" thing. Although they aren't as bad. But they are also tired of your standard jeep people with the freaking ducks and spending insane amounts of money only to go down the easy trails. One friend so much so, he sold his nicely built Rubicon and bought an old Cherokee to beat on while on rock crawling.

I'm planning on visiting family in Charlotte in a few weeks, and was thinking of planning a trip to Uwharrie. It seems like Wolf's Den is the easiest trail for a mostly stock truck like mine. Besides the $5 day pass and bringing the usual recovery gear, is there anything else I should be aware of on a first time visit? Thanks in advance!
