It doesn’t really matter the make or the body style. To pass these small overlap crash tests, you gotta keep the wheel out of the passenger compartment. With the Tacoma cab-mount weakened, or gone, I don’t know if there is anything left in a Tacoma to protect you. Maybe that foam behind the wheel liner?

    You forgot one...
Don't be ignorant. Be aware that there are reasons why machines are built the way they are. If you fuck with it, be aware there could be consequences.

Devils advocate. Other than big tires that ruin your fuel economy(which seems like most here care, not me) stress on suspension components yadayada... why da chop anyway? These are trucks to do truck things. You want bigger then go big but dont defend it like its a perfect solution. You chop up structural components of anything there are consequences. Why would Toyota want to warranty something that you structurally changed? Actually whocares. Your truck cut it up!

An old neighbor of mine had a nice expensive huge chunk of metal sitting in his driveway for while due to this. He was in an accident and the other insurance company did their due diligence on how that much damage occurred. Needless to say it was denied and when his insurance company received an explanation on why it was denied then they followed suit. He got a call saying they weren’t covering the storage fee at the wrecker so he had to get it hauled to the house and dropped off. The only lesson he learned after paying on a totaled truck was that the insurance company had a statement that any modifications must be reported. Even at that rate I’m not sure if any insurance company will approve it for that mod.

That is a lesson I learned and I even call insurance about going up a tire size on my truck. You may laugh but I’m definitely not taking a chance, I work hard for my money and I’m not paying for something I can’t have.

Perhaps the most salient argument that's been made is not one of strength gained or lost in a CMC or CMR, but that in any change to this particular area is going to change the crash design characteristics of the vehicle and could result in the tire being more likely to enter the footwell in the event of a frontal crash. Which obviously would not be a good thing.

I wasn't taking a stance on the issue, just explaining what I thought the best argument was in these 10 pages. With regard to that argument, your point as to the quality of the work is moot. No matter how good the work is the design characteristics will have changed and will operate differently than designed. Wether that is bad or not is anyone's guess.

And for what it's worth I'm preparing to do a CMR on my truck. Personally I don't think it makes a damn bit of difference.

Dude I think he's in machine gun post mode. He's just typing away and posting typing away and posting he's not gonna read anything you say. Just my opinion but carry-on!

I'm so relieved that this thread has gotten back to the point of internet niceties like "bro". Phew. Another crisis averted.

Lol I actually sit down with people like you to get ideas and give opinions. Creative people create, and sometimes during a creation they miss a step or three.
Engineers simply take ideas and creations and make them... not better really but... maybe a bit more usable than the initial concept and usually safer too.
