If your thinking of purchasing an RSI Smart cap DON'T!!! They will just take your money ($3850) and then not contact you for 16 weeks and counting. They gave me a projected 8 week timeline. You are better off spending your money with a company who doesn't treat their customers like shit.

Yea patience is short-lived in the good ole USA. Covid shipping issues a lot of logistical problems have slowed the process but Patience is a reward you won't regret. I paid for mine upfront I have it on my truck and I am completely stoked it's worth a year wait if I had to. Everything else is just substandard. That's just my opinion and half a cent. Take care!

I completely understand unforeseen manufacturing delays. What I don't understand is taking someone's money and not even sending a simple email after failing to meet your delivery date. It's unprofessional and shows a complete lack of respect for their customers. A treat others how you expect to be treated kind of thing.

Yea I understand your point. I guess I'm from a different mindset. I ping them instead. I didn't find out the nightmare they're under until then. I've even talked to folks in South Africa and they are so overwhelmed. They didn't think the popularity of their product was going to be in such demand and they were not prepared. Then at all the other delays from all these other things going on in the world and yeah it's a cluster. I don't know every time I ping OA they give me the best information available and have been apologetic. There's probably two dozen ships sitting off the beach here in my town waiting to be unloaded because of the backlog. It's a nightmare. If you can wait you won't be disappointed!

Why wait for something really nice when you can have something mediocre at best today? I was fortunate in that I got my commercial cap quickly but I would have waited a year, it's that much better. I did wait about six months for my table, but, that ended up being well worth the wait as its also hands down the nicest portable table I've ever seen.

I have pretty high standards and the only thing I've seen so far in the line that doesn't exude quality and excellent execution is the kitchen bin pictured earlier in this thread. Granted I've only seen pictures, both here and elsewhere (have not seen one in person). From what I can see the quality and the execution of the design look "ok," however, if someone were to have some pretty basic tools I think they could do better with pretty minimal effort. I had originally planned to do just this; I bought blank bins with the intent of using 3/8" King Starboard and 80/20 framing to finish out one of the bins as a kitchen bin to make use of my existing camp cookware, however, the more I think about things the more I'm leaning towards building a drawer setup with a kitchen drawer instead.

What’s the problem with the Softopper in winter? Can’t support snow load?

Anyone with an RSI Smartcap have issues with the tailgate closing due to the D seal on the edges of the cap where it meets the tailgate and if so what was your solution to fixing it?

I did use the rubber blocks which came with the cap and also used less then recommended torque setting for the cap (80 IN-LB).

I ended up trimming the seal so that when the tailgate closes it doesn't interfere with it. When I wash it the water drains straight out the back.

Thanks, I’m still trying to resist the trimming of the seal but I might do it as well, for now I used an additional
Rubber block close to the tail gate right next to the one I had there before (total of five rubber blocks on each side now) it seems to raise the cap just a bit to where the seal doesn’t not rub as much as before, also applied more super glue to the seal.
I ran into a Jeep Gladiator fella with a Smartcap on and he recommended me not to use the RSI recommended torque setting for tightening down the set screws, he told me that he used the recommended torque setting and broke all of the set screws, what was your experience with that, did you use the recommended 108 IN-LB, any issues/recommendations?

I did tight and a quarter turn past. On the center ones they will bend. I did them almost to where they started to bend. I also put a rubber washer underneath the steel washer so that it wouldn't slip around if it did. Seems to work. I also use the rubber blocks and they seem to be better in the corners but in the center they don't do much. I've done some pretty good trails and it hasn't moved. I also have bed stiffeners which I highly recommend. The composite bed moves all over the place.

It can definitely handle the snow load, but didn’t handle the cold temperatures well.

The clear back panel cracked in the cold (it was around zero degree), when I went to open it it creased a little and cracked in the crease.

That panel also scratches easily and collects a ton of road grime from the winter snow/ice , cleaning it off without damaging that panel is near impossible.

The security mesh will not work on the EvoA.

Yes that was the commercial. The Security Screen only works on the commercial caps.

I've looked, and I'm sure the answer is in this thread somewhere, but I can't find it. Can you still open the tailgate if the hatch is closed and/or locked?
