How do they do the check for the “modified software”? What do they look for?

I have no idea. Only thing I can think is they have a hash of the ECU file for every vehicle and they verify it matches the file on your ECU?

I chalk it up to contributing to the R&D of something great even though the road was a little bumpy at times. Pleased to see that K&D Tuning is on the OVTune “dealer” list so any of my future tunes or upgrades or interactions will be with @PapaRee or @TWTaco .

If I had to do it, I think I’d be tempted to roll the dice by showing up with KDMax, then if it failed (which I don’t think it will) come back with STOCK for a re-test. Or is this CA outfit saying they can determine if the Toyota programming has been altered and that’s bad even if it’s good?

Your question sounds like: “yes or no, are you still beating your wife?”

Not familiar with “slam the gas pedal” either on STOCK or KDMax.

No. The throttle response is on the point. Truck feels lighter. I feel like I should drive around towing something heavy around town/freeway. I'm on 2nd tank and mpg is getting better. I have SLT and still getting used to the responsive gas pedal. Do it so you can fall in love with your TACO over again.

That will probably get you sent to a state ref which will take more of your time and they will be better at spotting “issues”.

Before tune I was getting 17-18 mpg while easy on the gas pedal. Unless going mostly downhill will get 18-19 mpg. After the tuned It went down to 16 mpg due to the responsive throttle. With tune we "should" get better mpg after few hundred miles...depending how you drive it and once it settled. I'm starting to get better mpg now that I'm on 2nd tank. My main reason getting the tune is to get a better driving experience and better mpg. I'm getting both.

Nope, not at all. And I've got a pretty heavy rig on stock gears. This tune is a great way to go
