This.. my goal from day one has always been self sufficiency.

I plan on doing a Front Runner 10g water tank with 12v power for a pump tucked up against the cab in the bed.

And that comment about the sleeping gear and quick setups is what we're looking forward to with our Super Pacific. Pop it open and done. Close it and go.

We'll all have to get together after we dial in our setups more and get and camp, explore, and exchange ideas, etc. Always good to check out other options and ideas.

Been there man. As long as it gets you out.. that's all that matters. We've just been doing it for so long we've slowly been upgrading to make it more convenient and are able to focus on comfort now.

Oh yeah, been there for sure. There is something really nice about an empty truckbed, sleeping in a bag under the stars drinking whiskey neat and eating potato chips for survival hahaha.

Same opinion here. As long as you can get out. So what it takes you a few extra min to set up. By that time we are all drinking beers and over chatting with you while you finish set up anyway. Im still rocking my CVT and I do like it. Between the wife and me setting it up its only 2 min. Take down is a bit longer but still less time than a ground tent. Its just building your set up over time as you find deals or know what youre willing to throw the money down on.

Have they changed this recently? I have been doing a ton of research lately about GFC/Vagabond/SP/Alucab CC type truck campers, and this is one of my two big gripes about the X1. You either have to pull all your bedding (except a sheet or two) out of the tent and stash it below, or deflate the Exped (have had the Exped megamat duo for years, and have slept on and deflated it more times than I can remember) which is not that easy.

Speaking of setups, with the addition of the GFC, fridge etc. my ass is sagging nearly 2 inches. Grabbed these Icon RXTs and 50lb heavier coils for the kings. Should be able to dial down my preload so the front rides nicer and get the rear off the bumps when Im all loaded up. Hoping to get them swapped in before I go to @snowsk8air2 for the rear shock relo/hanger install in a couple weeks.

I know you have a decent set p and cant be poor as you are on this forum and not the nissan forum lol And everyone has a 60 second set up. Just depends how much you actually set up. If I am by myself I have it down to about 7 seconds to take the cooler out of the truck.

Pretty much the same as you described. You can leave the exped in there deflated. We just use one sleeping bag.. so I'm gonna see about getting it all to fit. I believe I can. Especially because there's an extra 20+" inches on the SP sleeping platform. So I could fold the sleeping bag and store it there possibly if not on top.

I got one of those gazelle tents a year or so ago and I can go from start to mattress and sleeping bag inside and tent up in like 5 mins.

while I do miss being up off the ground, the gazelle as been worth every penny. It’s nice to have such a big space that one person can set up. The tent itself takes literally a minute to pop up. Goes back in the bed easy.

if I camped as much as I wish I could I’d definitely go the wedge route like josh. To be honest, the game plan at this point is to get a rzr, toy hauler and trade the tundra in for a diesel. Buttttt that’s gonna take a minute haha.

We thought about going back to a Ground Tent. Those Gazelles are huge tho and wouldn't fit in the bed of our truck. Plus we too like being off the ground now. So.. wedge it was. Plus I always kind liked and wanted a shell to keep everything clean-er.. but didn't want a shell plus RTT.. blah blah.

I will admit I like the idea of throwing on one my trailer for bigger trips where we base camp for a few days like the dunes or family camping trips. But if we are self sufficient for a few days in the truck, we are likely on a much more intense trip like the rubicon.
I’ll tag along and you can watch my poor man’s setup. Coolers and ground tent haha. Then when I say let’s go for a night ride y’all can scramble to close your tents, pack shit up so you can take your trucks out. Or fight for an open seat with me.

Rock want you got and just get out and use it. We know you do that anyways. I need to fix my 4wd and then get out more than just in the cinders.

Tailgates are for peasants. Just reach over the bed rail into the cooler for the beer/ whiskey.
