You’ve made me do the research on these Coopers and I think I’m in. 255/75/16. I’ll pop the B5100 to the 3rd or 4th and save pennies for the SCS.

How those Coopers treating you?! Lots of good feedback out there.

Just found out about this thread and really like the idea of these and the weight saved, etc. Thinking about 255/75/17s for my next set and possibly Hankins Dynapro AT2s in SL, does anyone here have any experience with this specific tire? Any help is gladly appreciated!

is it weird that going up to 255/80/17 tires at 50lbs each and my mileage is still decent? I did the math on distance traveled and how much gas went into take on last two fillups and i'm calculating around 15.5mpg. i can live with that. now i need to see how it goes up the mountains with stock gears hauling gear and a 1,500lb camper.

did you factor in the speedometer error? with those tires on my truck the speedometer reads about 6% slower, so that should mean it is showing 94% of the actual miles traveled per tank. My truck gets 14.8 to 15.5 typically after the math correction.

yes i factored that in. i now multiply the odometer miles by 1.08 to get the actual miles traveled.

Does anyone know of any load range C tires that come in 255/80r17 or 255/85r16? Or anything that's a skinny 33 really. I want those big tires for some ground clearance but don't want a crap ride from E :(

All of the ones I'm finding are Es

I think load range E is common to help support side loads better on tall skinnies, since they would be more prone to flex

They're also common as a dually option, so of course high load raring is key for that

Interestingly though, the kenda klever rt's in a 33x10.50 come in load range E, but the 35x10.50's are load range D

I think BFG makes a KO2 in 34x10.5 that’s a LR D @ 54lbs or so. They are just crazy expensive for that size.

Honestly I don't feel much of a difference between the smaller C's ko2s I had and these bigger Es from Toyo. In between I had SL tires and the difference is night and day. That said, the Es I'm getting used to and decided they feel good around 34psi

I am on 255/80R17 Wild Peaks and there is almost no difference on the highway from the factory Goodyears. Off road is rougher unless I air down. However, IMHO, I think the extra protection of the E load class is extremely important. I have had Cs in the past on other vehicles and they hold up okay...but for anything with rocky washed out roads, I would never want to rely on SLs. Had too many side punctures. Wish there were more options in 33 and 34 skinnies!!

Anybody using Yokohama Geolandar M/T's in 255/75/17? They're 32.3" and only 48.7 lbs in a C load. Would these fit okay on a 8.5" wheel? Site says the wheel width is 6.5-8.5 but I saw some guys say skinny tires like thinner wheels. These would be going on a first gen so the lighter weight is appealing and I don't ramble super hard, mostly small kine beach action with sand and rocks.

ive been debating getting the same tire. Got any pics of your setup? I’m trying to figure out if I stay on the stock ‘20 sport wheels or search for a used set of TRD pro 4 runner wheels.

    Haun,
I have a 3/2 lift on a 2021 4x4 20210605_152510.jpg 2021-07-08_15-52-31.jpg offroad. I wanted to avoid the rubbing that I had with my 2010 Sport running 285/75R16. Once lifted the factory 265/70R16 on oem wheels was really close to the UCAs. I decided that I wanted to push them out just a bit, so I sold my oem wheels and Goodyear Kelvalr SLs and purchased the gun metal SEMA wheels. I thought the gunmetal would give me a nice contrast. I have no rubbing and could probably go to 34 or 35" by just removing the front flaps. Lift and alignment was all done by Toyota dealer. Highway road and offroad traction are great with these Wildpeaks. I didnt notice any difference in power due to bigger tires. Looking at adding a low rack or bars and a HTT for some camping trips.

@AZ_Tac0 nice setup. I really don’t want to have to spend like 1k$ Canadian on a new (to me set of rims) . But I may have to bite the bullet. I’m running 2” all around and on the stock sport wheels my 265/70 AT3ws rub sometimes on the upper control arms while off-roading.

yeah -- thats where I was with the stock offroad 16" rims...I really hated not just using those wheels with the 255's -- but that backspace is just too tight after a lift. The SEMAs worked out perfect as would have PRO wheels. I paid 166/wheel from BAM + shipping. Looks like they are 181 USD now for Black or Gunmetal. My Offroad wheels and tires only had 4K on them and sold for $500 as soon as I listed them on Offerup. There is always someone with a 4runner or an SR5 looking for our TRD rims/tires since it is a huge improvement for them over their oem rims/tires.

I am picking up a 5th tire from Discount Tires for an exact spare and hoping I can fit it underneath!

So, the 2 month? 3 month? however-many-month review of going from 265/70R17 C-load Duratracs on TRD Sport wheels to 255/80R17 E-load ST Maxx on SEMAs:

Gas mileage (corrected for tire size) is about a half of a MPG worse with the new tires. This may be an overstatement, because I spent years of really only driving on the old tires on weekends and trips, while I've done a lot of commuting in traffic on the new tires. I'm thinking the difference is likely more or less negligible, if the travel types were like for like.

No complaints whatsoever on the trail. Look good, handle great, and perform well aired down. Haven't taken them through any notable snow, sand, or mud, though; just dirt, gravel, and rocks.

They still pull to the right on the highway, alignment-to-compensate be damned. I suspect that it's just the road crown local to me, though, because the degree of pull seems to vary significantly.

    Tacoma World -> it’s a trap!

wish I hadn’t clicked on this thread. Lol. Getting major FOMO after just upgrading to Duratracs. I went with LT265/75/16 on the recommendation of a friend. Went with load E due to the weight of my rig. These tires are kicking me in the mpg (went from 18.5 on average to ~16.5 - 17). And the truck feels slower.

Now wishing I had gone with a 235/85/16 A/T tire, maybe something a little less aggressive than the duratracs, and possibly a little lighter. But load rating is definitely a concern for my rig.

My question for you all: are skinny tires a good idea for a heavy Tacoma?

Side by side, I can see that the same tire in a narrower profile will have a lower load rating. But would that translate to anything of concern for my rig? I’m obviously not running anywhere close to 3,000lbs/tire.
