Which Tire should I Get???

I just bought a 2011 TRD Off Road that came with the BFG Rugged Trails P265-70-16. These Tires Scare the Sh%%t out me in the snow!!
I slid again today going straight on level ground, making a turn, braking and the tire wobles when I make a sharp turn at very low speeds. I have tried 32 PSI, 29PSI.....placed 240 lbs of sand on top of the rear... Hate the ride.

I have read many many threads here and I am ready to get a set; but most of my driving is on Highway going from NY to Upsate, Vermont, lots of snow, rain on dry pavement. And I do a lot of fishing/camping with the family so I am on the sand from April through Novemember. My son will be ready to drive soon too, so I am also looking for a SAFE street tire.

I have received many suggestions, but most of the tires are mainly for OFF Roading, and other than sand, my off rading is driving on dry pavement in heavy snow, rain.

I am tilting towards the more highway tire with excellent rain/snow performance like the GY Silent Armors. Am I going to regret using them on the 2011 Tacoma? I have not seen any feedback if they are good on sand.

I was also considering the Toyo TA, Nitto terra grappler and the GY Duratrac, but I think they are more noisy and geared for harder/muddy off roads. I would hate driving for 6 hours with a noisy tire.

Anyone using the "wimpy" Silent Armors, or any other similar tire and willing to offer comments?

Check out the REVO 2's. Not a overly aggressive looking tire but the reviews are consistently positive.

 

Toyo Open Country A/T are quite, ride nice, and I've had good luck in the snow with them. BFG A/T is also a good tire - rides a little rougher and is a little more aggressive.

 

I love my Destination AT's. Not too aggressive for the highway, but have been awesome in the snow, mud and trails. I have once had an issue with traction with them. I recommend them, if you are not seriously considering off-roading. I know they are not what you asked about, but after considering the tires you suggested I went with these and have not regretted the decision!

 

I love my Michelin LTX MS'2. Very quiet, handles great in the rain, snow, pavement and dirt.

 

BFG Mudders! i know your not an off raoder ( im not a very big one either) but these are great tires. On websites they get 4.5 ( out of 5) in snow but 3 for ice but i think as long as you dont go crazy on ice they do fine. Also cuz they look awesome and my 33's were about 250 each so not as much as toyo.

I would recommend either the Nitto T.G. or the Toyo ATs since Ive used both. They both are pretty quiet. I liked the Toyo just a little bit more just bc they lasted me a little longer.

 

I ran Yokohama Geolander AT/S on my last rig (F150 supercrew). Living in the Northwest we don't see a ton of snow, but rain and black ice are always present. The geolanders handled great for light snow, up to say 10 inches. Never had a chance to get in much deeper stuff. Wet roads and icy conditions they did an above average job. Off roading, all but the sloppiest of mud they did a respectable job for an all terrain. One thing I loved about them was the quiet, smooth ride on pavement.
Currently I have BFG A/Ts on my Taco and I can say I do miss the Yokohama Geolanders. They are a pretty reasonably priced as well. You can check The Tire Rack for additional information. Good Luck. Ken

 

I appreciate all the feedback; I am ready to purchase the Toyo A/T. My local auto shop also had good things to say. All the ther ones mentioned were also good choices, but the price is great on the Toyos! $130 shipped!

 

They only have 240 miles on them! $110 each picked up !
