Yeah, Im thinking I can push it a little more than 275, but i'll have to use the neighbors pool to figure that out. But here is the mount all set up, I need to put some handles on it so I can lift the back of the kayak again.

So I figured out a backup plan to save on some weight.

A trailer! They sell kayak coolers that you just tie to the back of your kayak and tow around with you. Using the same idea, I could put a giant car battery in one, tie it to the back of my kayak and then just tow the battery around. This would allow me to use a full sized battery, keep the weight down on the kayak, and allow the system to be more modular. The only down sides are having to deal with a trailer floating around behind me, having 2 kayaks to drag to the lake, and the off chance it sinks and then takes my kayak down with it.

A good rule of thumb is not to exceed 70% of the stated weight capacity of the kayak. Doing so creates safety issues and certainly performance issues. You're way over that 70%.

If this fails, it just gives me a reason to buy a pelican catch pwr 100 :) The install of this mount didnt modify the kayak in any way, so reverting it is easy. I used holes that were already in the kayak.

I like it if you were local- I give ya a full size battery in a plastic box I used for a Boat few years ago. It just sits on my work bench and stares at me.

Went out early around 6 am on the lake here till around 10 am. Very slow till about 8 am or a bit later. Seemed the trout were hitting good as i was leaving. Caught a few small browns early on then the bigger ones hit. No real size, but i kept a couple for lunch. Very tasty fried up to a perfection in a mix of olive oil, butter, lemon juice, pepper. some salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.

Nice, I think I am going to try to get out tomorrow for some fishing on the trout lake. Might be too hot for them, but its 70 feet deep, so thats where the trout and crappies should be hanging out.

If your lake develops a thermocline like here, its where those trout will be in the peak of summer. You'll need to get down to that precise depth with either leaded line, or using a down-rigger like i run. At any rate good luck...hope you get something and report back.

Holy crap did we get a series of wicked thunderstorms with heavy rain here last night, and early this morning. A brook flooded its bank that normally feeds into a culvert that goes into one of the lakes. It took out the entire width of the dirt road i live off leaving about a 3 ft deep swath. On top of it some dipstick with a yaris piled into the ditch the flood left...nice job, stuffed it right in there. Well, i had to wait for the road crews from the town to get their heavy equipment and fill it in. Now it feels like your driving on a wet sponge, or a road made of jello when you cross that section. On top of it my boat was about 2'' from sinking, never saw the lake this high since i've been there. Gotta get parts to fix the bilge pump float before it does.

Wish we got some rain up here... water levels are stupid low. Went down to the river basin to try for some bowfin... water was about 2 inches deep, normally they are around 3 feet deep.

Thats the way it was here last summer. My boat was sitting in mud from july to the end of october not being able to use it. It ruined the hull so bad i had to find another boat this year. Now the water level is the highest ever....go figure.

Took the kids fishing tonight, neighbor came with too. The kids got some bluegill and crappies, but we let them hold our big fish.

We have blue herrons and bald eagles all over the lake here to compete with, not to mention those flying garbage can gulls.

Ok, so I am trying to convince my fishing buddy to stop using the lures he is using. He will pick 1 or 2 lures and use that the whole time while fishing, he keeps going for a trophy fish and never catches anything. I on the other hand bring 2-3 rods and am constantly switching lures/rods, I end up catching tons of fish. He also brings only 1 rod, and it usually ends with him picking out knots for half the time, He uses a swivel and snap on his 1 rod to swap baits easy, but the swivel part is not a great idea for much of what he is using.

I would think that him watching me catch fish would convince him to stop what he is doing and start matching me, but it doesnt.

Last time we went out fishing, he went with a whopper plopper pretty much the whole time (evening, overcast, clear water). I was switching between tail spins and skirted jigs, caught crappie and bass. Finally convinced him to switch to the bait I was using and he got a big bass right away.

Im going to bring him out to fleetfarm this weekend to pick out some new baits, hoping I can pick out a few lures for him.

I used to fish like your buddy and never caught much, either. I've been learning to fish different lures / techniques and have been having much better success. You've got to learn what works for the fish you are trying to catch. Might not be the lure you want it to be. I do need to pick up another rod or two so I am not re-tying so often.

The good old daredevil spoon is hard to beat if using spoons to fish for pike.
