It’s hard to say, could be leaking from the inside or outside edges,
I don’t think that black seal is a high temp seal tho

Probably not. And if you look closely there’s some questionable debris on the edge of the snap ring. I don’t even want to mention what it could be.

I hope to dear god nobody fucked it up and tried to fix it or created a situation that would create that and tried to cover it up.

I only noticed after I put the pulley back on and zoomed into the picture.

I can only hope that is nothing and the camera/lighting makes it look bad.

I had a rebuilding company, not naming, but destroyed the outside seal area when it was rebuilt and I had to get a completely new snout because I couldn’t get it to stop leaking with 3 different snout seals.
They took too much material off when they did the rebuild and didn’t take responsibility for it.
It wasn’t leaking before and after rebuilding it leaked

there can’t be too many rebuilders out there.

    stieg
    Jon Bond
    Magnum Powers
    SCOL
    HSL

Why would anyone need to remove material?

And that sucks. That’s why I wish Magnuson would do rebuilds. Instead they farm it out to a company that charges double what anyone else does.

I just went on a trip and had a whole string of bad luck with my truck. My seal just burst from heat right at the top seam between the 2 top bolts. We went from fresno ca up through tioga pass in yosemite and halfway across nevada out past tonapah exploring ghost town mines. It was over 111degrees with straight roads and the crew I was with all retired LEO's never went under 90mph. the truck ECT's stayed from 174-220 on hills around 200 degees most of the time, but the supercharger was blazing hot... badluck streak 1. nosecone leak 2. Alternator goes out 3. rock breaks winshield. 4.tps sensor started to intermittently not work.

So I don’t know if anyone has pulled new oil out of their supercharger after only a few tanks of gas but this is what I got after the nose cone rebuild.

Im not sure if this is normal. Smells more like diff oil than anything else.

I would assume normal. Most oils start looking pretty dirty right away after you put a few miles on them. And supercharger oil never smells good even when new, stuff is rank.

I haven't checked mine with just a few hundred miles on it before though. But I would think it's normal

Yeah I’m just a little paranoid. With the seal leaking I’m wondering what else was done wrong.

But I got the seal replaced and went for a drive. So far no apparent leaks.

What oil did you put in?
Did you get the high temp 300 degrees nose seal?

yes, used the high temp from rolling performance.

I also used the oil they sell because it came with a cone to get it into the hole.

I kind of wanted to try JonBond oil with their claims of lower temps. But I am a bit skeptical of that so I just went with the RP stuff since I was already ordering from them.

You’ve mentioned more than a few times you can rest your hand on your supercharger with methanol.

What about stop and go city driving without much boost. I can’t imagine it stays cool in that situation from all the heat in the engine bay.

Mine is always hot in the summer with 90+ temps, black paint, etc. just from heat soak. Everything in the bay is toasty.

Mine runs 185 with a Stant 170. Willing to bet that if I used a Toyota 170 with the jiggle valve down I’d get temps like yours.

The seal job was successful so far. Did that this morning and after a 3 hour drive no more leaking.

you should do some hood louvers. I got mine from www.hoodlouvers.com the 13"x29" louver. they make the truck look badass and You can see the heat pouring out of the hood. the other thing I was surprised at was it stopped hood lift at high speeds. the truck was alot more stable. truck handles so good in triple digit mph umm mexico driveing my combo that works great for heat- hood louvers, champion 3core radiator, electric fan, Hayden 1040 engine oil cooler,170 t-stat, kept my truck cool in the desert pushing it hard. the supercharger still gets way too hot so getting my methanol kit hooked up for next years desert trip is a must have. with my setup in the 111degree heat the truck stayed cool under 200 degrees unless i ran my ac then my temps would go up to 230 but still wouldnt overheat. i suffered with no ac...

Ive been wanting to do louver or vent style hood. But I’m too vain to just drop one of the universal rivet kits in. I want a seamless grafted in one pained so it looks factory.

I though about hood scoop as well. But I don’t think they look right on the 01-04 hoods.

Here’s some mods Ive done that I haven’t seen here.

Sent off a 2.1 to griptec. And moved my alternator all the way in, relocated dipstick, and running a 61” belt. More belt wrap, more room for tensioner to move, and a tighter belt.

so far I don’t think I’m getting much slip.
