@TWTaco I'm assuming this will impact with having the KDMax?

I posted about this in the Performance/Tuning forum and was going to re-post here since I know 3rd Gens have a TON of OVTunes. I guess the claim that the OVTune software is undetectable will be put to the test. Hopefully all of the people who went to tuning events and whatnot have access to their tuners to get flashed back to stock if necessary.

i thought I remember someone saying that Toyota could not see these aftermarket tunes if you took the truck in for something. If Toyota cannot see them, how can the State see them?

I don't think it is that Toyota can't see, its that they aren't really looking. It would be easy to take a snapshot of the programming and compare it to the OEM tune. VW has been doing this for years. Every time a vehicle is hooked up to the scanner in the service shop it sends an ECU snapshot to corporate. If the software doesn't match up you get tagged TD1 and warranty claims become exponentially more difficult.

The beginning of the end of vehicle performance modifications , check out the SEMA RPM act that is trying to stop enforcement of modifications to vehicles with Vin #'s

Yeah, I am familiar with the RPM act, already signed the petition(s) and sent the form letters to my congressmen.

Interesting. How does the EPA know that a person owns an unregistered race car? Lets say the car is non-oped? Asking for a friend.

This isn’t surprising at all. Get ready for all the tuners to fall off the face of the earth. People are going to get some hefty fines and it’s not going to be pretty.

This is the only reason I haven’t gone standalone. Because the support will soon vanish and you’ll be stuck with expensive hardware you can’t use if there’s an issue.

In some of the other circles the tuners want proof it’s a dedicated race vehicle. All personal information is recorded, including the vin and you have to provide paperwork showing your vehicle has been to the racetrack more than a few times.

I have some pretty strong feeling about all this but I’ll keep all that to myself.

Probably. These VQ owners are getting annoying as sh*t with their Chewbacca-esque exhaust. G37 owners are the new 90's civic.

If this bill passes it'll not only affect the car owner but the entire aftermarket performance industry . This means let's say summit or Jegs from selling performance parts and eventually closing their businesses

As I mentioned this leave hundreds of thousands of people who work in aftermarket performance industry without jobs . I know s couple of performance shops already fined as much as $180k for modifying and installing performance parts

You don't like the tunes that make your car sound like an automatic rifle when you barely let off the gas?

Maybe some states, but there are tons and tons of areas that don't test at all, a lot of the larger cities and surrounding large counties have emissions checks but most of the counties in the US don't. For example, in the 159 counties in my state, only 13 have emissions requirements.

Same in California. Some counties don't require bi-annual smog checks. We own a vacation home in one of those counties. Maybe I need to move there. :);)
