    Hey Judy!
Hope all is well in the Kingdom.
Have many good NEK memories from back in the day.

I inherited Heidi when my Mom passed away. She is gone now as well, but the time I had her was a hoot.

    Good morning, everyone!!

The rain held off for us until last night so I was able to get the grass cut. I can't believe how wet the ground around our house is - worse than I typically see it in April. This morning, I woke up to the sound of our septic alarm screaming. Just had the tanks pumped last month so that's not the issue. It goes off when there is enough water in the ground that it begins to flow backwards into the tanks - also normally something that happens in early spring when we have lots of rain. Ground gets saturated so the water has nowhere to go. I unplugged the alarm - it will sort itself out in a day or so.

What a sweet pup, Judy!! We also had one that ate rat poison - and we found out that Vitamin K is the most expensive vitamin in the world. That same Lab ate a glass Christmas Ball and swallowed 5 rolls of pennies whole. She was our Iron Maiden and made it to two weeks short of 15.

    Be safe out there!!!

This is one of our current house guests, Ollie - at her guard station......... she can't be comfy sitting on the cement. Complains if I don't turn her chair around.

My wif is pretty upset this AM, a past commander of one of the fire departments where she worked - was lost, flying a spotter plane at a wildfire here in AZ. He has been doing this every summer since we've known him - many hours in dangerous conditions.

Good morning everyone! We got drenched again with thunderstorms last night. I can stand out in the driveway and hear the groundwater running off our hill and down into our pond. The local State Park lake has already consumed several park benches as of yesterday. More rain today probably.

Sorry to hear about the loss, Steve. Brave man to fly those missions.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porchites! Looks more than 20% gloomy to me! :rain: Got 3/4" in an afternoon seabreeze shower yesterday while working on the pool. Looked up and "gee that's dark to the South". Checked the radar; put up the aluminum poles, put down the umbrellas, and got my stuff inside just in time. Never seen so much July rain, but only 4'th on the ATX list so far, so I blame it on "must have been working."
Off for a Dr. follow up today. No issues - regular visit. Y'all have a great Hump-Friday (already!)

Mind if I run a pump in your yard and about two thousand miles of hose to my property? We still haven't had any measurable rain although several days of dark clouds and plenty of thunder. The last decent moisture was probably in January as snow, and that was not nearly enough.
I've seen dry reservoirs here that have always had water, and it's only early July.
Frankly... I'm a little weirded out.

This is the first year I have really considered some French drains on the downspouts! Rain barrels can't be emptied fast enough, except the one that pumps the greenhouse! The only upside is that the rain has helped refill the pool water the wife had to drain. Otherwise...

How come you never see anyone building a network of water pipelines instead of oil?!

Profitability and environmental interference. Out here a few farsighted, wise folks came up with a plan to move water hundreds of miles. It was good.

Then a bunch of nearsighted kooks decided a tiny fish was more important than people. Now we have shortages while millions of acre feet flow to the sea.

I'd like to know that myself. Rivers flood back east, causing all kinds of damage... and in the west Lake mead, Lake Powell, and all the local reservoirs are going dry. Las Vegas is going to hit a brick wall and they continue to build like everything is peachy.
All I can say is... government at its best.

Well, I'll go as far to say as every problem has a solution, and there are no "little fish". Anything else invites trouble to all!

Remember these? I said it was the only good thing happening in the back yard a week or so ago.

    20210630_131842.jpg

Little critters will strip the leaves from the potted Passion Vines, and sometimes, even the whole of the stands on the fence. Pots end up like this....

    20210630_131850.jpg

    Wife used to take scissors and cut them in half. And the vines always looked ugly, unless we had a few they didn't hit. So, I noticed they were ONLY on the Passions, and I looked them up. And, you know what? The Passions have their own complete infrastructure. These caterpillars will strip a Passion vine, but ONLY a Passion vine. Then, they turn into these;

    upload_2021-7-14_10-3-37.jpg

And we have them by the hundreds, all summer long. Busy pollenating anything that blooms, and probably stuff that doesn't. And then, the vines all grow the leaves back (really doesn't take long), and we have more flowers than we ever had before the butterflies.

    20210630_131955.jpg

And once we have the flowers back, we also have Passion fruit. Which we never had before I learned these secrets. And the butterflies lay their eggs ONLY in the Passion flowers, so it comes full circle.

    upload_2021-7-14_9-52-51.jpg

So, don't kill the caterpillar! Sometimes this cycle is longer and slower, but it eventually all catches up. Ask a fisherman if there really is a small fish - not really, everything does something.

"And that's all I have to say about that!" Off to the Dr>!
