have you checked how much play you have in your driveshaft near the carrier bearing? It seems like the noise is happening upon acceleration. In considering you can hear it in the cab that loud, you would think it is directly under the cab

Doesn’t seem to be anything crazy loose. U can just about feel the pop in the floorboard. I’ve noticed that you don’t have to be giving it acceleration per say, but it needs to be moving. Happens in 2wd and 4wd

Sounds like a driveline issue honestly. Does it happen just driving in 4wd on flat surfaces, or do you need to be flexed out a bit?

check your leaf spring torque specs (including ubolts) and your body mount bushings.

I think for factory ubolts 90ftlbs is right around the spec iirc.

Ive seen conflicting information now that I look at it.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-torque-specs.454603/

I have my ubolt flip torqued at 90ftlbs though to be fair.

Any chance you swapped your leaf pack?

My Dakar’s would bind on the hanger under extreme flex. Sounded just like that.

No I haven’t. I was eventually planning on it. But idk that I’ll be putting any more money into this thing. At least until this is fixed

Hmm.. throw someone underneath to see if they can hear where it’s coming from.

sometimes people crack the radiator support or the radiator support bushings go bad. Everything I’ve ever Fucked up has been a result of my own mods, check the front end to see if it’s the hidden winch bumper.

May have found something, it looks suspicious anyways. The arrow and circle highlight some pretty deep gouches on the coil. I felt the inside of the uca and no scrapes or gouches there. Can’t see it, can only feel it. Those are pretty deep on the coil.

It’s odd, but I can’t imagine that being the culprit? Unless it’s binding so bad that the spring is slipping a bit sideways.

gonna have to flex out the truck and check with someone outside. At least that’s the only way I find my issues lol.

Axle wrap causing your leaf springs to slap is my first guess.

My RCI skid plate makes clicking/ popping noises over some bumps.
I confirmed when doin oil change and I took off. Even if all bolts were snugged and torqued and I had rubber washers between the frame.
Alot of flex and torsion between mounting points.

I’m going to take it off and see if it still happens. I didn’t think the front skid was in an area that would flex a lot. But I geuss it could

Continuing my quest in search of wtf is making this sound. Removed skid plate to see if that was it, no change. Continued looking just to find the t case leaking where it mates with the trans. Also discovered the mount to the crossmember was fairly loose.

Following, I have the same situation on my 2021, loud popping/banging noise when flexing pretty hard in 4 wheel drive. Coming from the driver’s side and I can feel it in my feet, not in the steering wheel. There is no way I could ever duplicate it for the dealership
