Appalachian trail

Have any of you finished the AT? If yes, how? all in one hike, or partial or
portions? I am training to tackle it in March. I am 64 and shows, but I am working on it.

Got much backcountry experience?

 

As I said I am working at it. Just got back from Pine crest CA. alpine lake 5600' and spent 2 nights sleeping on the back of my truck's top. No heat, just slipping bag. 3 days hike of 15 - 17 miles a day. This is my 4th time this winter. I intend God willing, to tackle it in spring.

My buddy retired last year and through hiked the AT. He lost about 40 lbs. in the first month and had his wife mail him care packages while he was on his way. He went through 3 pairs of boots. They say on average you will spend $1.50 to $2.50 a mile at 2,165 miles. If you want to hike the AT then try it man, nobody is ever gonna fault you if you don't make it to Maine. I would love to be able to hike it someday. Good luck!

 

I have hiked from the beginning in the georgia here to the tennessee state line, ive topped a few peaks and i love it. but lately work has had me tied up so much that i have not got the chance to take on any more. I have been hiking with the boy scout troop that im involved in. and to tell the truth it is one of the most amazing feelings in the world, just standing up on top of the peak of a mountain and looking. my favorite so far has been blood mountain, there is a shelter on the top that you can sleep in and right beside it is a really big rock top that you can stand on. its amazing in the morning watching the clouds roll across the state.

 

I would love to try but I only get to hike a few hours a week on it, I'm about 300 yrs off the trail. I would try if I could.

I am going to start working on it this summer. I am almost done with the John Muir/Sheltowee trace trail. I definitely wont do it all at once. probably get it done in a few different trips
