The sad part is your told if you don`t go to college and run up massive debt you never get ahead.

Then live at home till you get your 6 figure entry level salary

That’s what they did. Brainwashing the kids to forget the trades.
So most of them now are not In their selected field for much less salary.
So the trade guy is making his very low debt income and the collage kid is making less
With 1/4 mil loan…

 

Where I started to see people going away from the trades is when the smaller farms started to go away.

Growing up in the country farm kids had there hands in all kinds of skills because we did everything for the most

 

No substitute for experience.
Jack of all trades is a skill too.

 

My grandfather/grandmother are never far in my thoughts. The other day when remembering granddad he used to use the word lickdob around dinner time. Any of you ever heard that term? So I looked it up and it was a depression era term, basically anything thrown together to make a meal. My grandparents were young then and at times so poor they lived in tent/cardboard box cities. I always figured grandpa was talking about gravy when he said lickdob.

 

At my old job we had hot melt glue machines for the finished goods packaging. Fixed dozens of shoes over the years plus lots of other things.
I don't know what the hot melt was made of, nothing would break it down - tried acetone, detergent, mineral spirits, alcohol, gasoline and lots of others over the years.

Probably fix the space shuttle with that stuff.
