I can not seem to get past 12/13 mpg. I have a 2016 TRD 4x4 off road AT. Any ideas. I’m not that heavy footed…

Any mods? Larger than stock tires? Extra weight? Lots of things can cause bad mpgs. Will need some more info.

I got the same size tire in C load and I am getting 17-18 in the city. 12-13 is crazy low MPGs. Do you idle a lot? And how do you calculate?

Very odd. Could the MAF sensor be acting up? I would start by getting some MAF cleaner and making sure it's not fouled up. That would cause odd fuel to air ratios and could lead to running rich.

I am typically city driving. I am using the dash calculation. I’m usually at the speed limit 35-45/65 on highway. I do drive a lot and yes I do sometimes sit in my car, I work out of it.
I traded my 16’ 2WD sport for 16’ 4x4 off-road. I was not expecting amazing fuel efficiency it’s just a lot lower than what I was getting so I wanted to ask all your professional opinions. If it’s correct it’s fine but I don’t want to waste unnecessarily.

check your milage when going on a longer highway trip, that will be a good benchmark. parked and idling you get 0 mpg, city driving stop and go is bad as well.

I do have 100k engine. So any maintenance recommendations would be appreciated. Previous owner did all services up to 80k.

This afternoon I took a 10 mile trip with my 2020 and for some reason out of the blue I was getting 28mpg round trip. That’s the highest I’ve ever gotten. Back and forth to work I average about 18 to 20 so I found it strange. Pleasant but strange.

A thermostat that is stuck open can cause that. If the engine is running too cold it will continually double pulse the injectors thus killing your gas mileage.

I took it to the dealer 2 days ago and asked about the thermostat only cause it seemed to be running a Little hotter than I’d expect. They said there wasn’t anything found but I don’t know how easy it is to check a thermostat.

and I live in Vegas it’s never cool

I'm getting 15mpg at best, with tune, cruise control, mild driving, freeway, etc.

My same engine Camry gets 28 mpg, albiet 1000lbs lighter.

Toyota screwed the pooch on the Tacoma, and I'm starting to think it's a conspiracy.

Not helpful. OP said he came from a 3rd Gen 2wd and got better mpg.
Edit: and you drive a 2wd access.

I would have to drive like a complete asshole to get 12-13. I don’t get what’s happening here, 100k miles is nothing, even for a Kia.

Check tire pressure and try calculating MPG manually and see if you are still around 12 - 13 MPG.
