I'm currently reading "Chasing New Horizons" about it. Interesting getting a peek behind the bureaucracy curtain at NASA.

So curious question more than actual mission idea. Could a Dragon Capsule reach Hubble? As in it's another jump in altitude from the ISS but could, in theory, a Crew Dragon with a crew of three and parts reach that orbit with enough maneuverability to reach Hubble? Would it survive rentry from the higher orbit or was Crew Dragon always a low altitude rentry vehicle?

If so is that an option to do another service mission should Papa Elon want more goodwill publicity and possibly to show off how capable the Crew Dragon is?

I was under the impression that the technology was too outdated to be worth the effort in repair? I may be mistaken though, I am certainly not an expert in this arena.

Scott Manley had a good video on this, I believe a crew dragon could reach it … but then couldn’t do anything useful, as it has no manipulator arm or airlock.

We need an orbit only vessel that can park/refuel at the ISS and carry out such missions.

Problem is orbit translations between different inclinations are terribly fuel expensive. Might as well just launch from the ground.

Sooner or later that won’t be the case since the ISS won’t be the only platform available and some orbits only require accel/decel to/from different altitudes. Having people up there but unable to do anything seems silly. It’s a planning for the future notion in any case.

Yeah I figure eventually someone will get smart and stash fuel depots and worker drones at various useful inclinations/altitudes.
