If I recall past readings on the topic, the public has tried multiple times to have their voice heard. Hell, when I was stationed over here previously back in 01-07 timeframe, there were efforts underway to abolish the recon. Not sure what makes this year different, but I believe its as close to being suspended (for 3 years) as it has ever been.

Oh, and I'm like you...an outsider. No vote for me over here!

 

Howsit everybody, new to the forum but family has had tacos since forever. Born and raised in Hilo, moved to Oahu in 2008. Currently drive a 07 Tacoma but keeping my open for a cherry 1st gen, always loved that body. Aaaloha!

Truck was just dropped at the port. Should be there in August!!!! Not quite sure yet. Need to scope the area to see if anything stands out to rent/buy.

 

Anyone have recommendations on local shops that do ECU tuning, aftermarket stuff in particular? As I’ve never had to do stuff like this before, what’s involved in getting it tuned?

so after a long hiatus I'm back. no taco but a 2021 4runner 4x4. anyway I know this forum was more active than the 4runner forums a few years back so I'll be lurking.

so I've been looking for kenda tires locally. anyone down here bring um in? or 255/80/17s can't find any atm

 

I gave them a call today and he said they no longer do that kind of tuning; couldn't recommend anyone either as he said a lot of shops have stopped doing that sort of thing recently. Not sure where to go next but thanks though for the lead.

 

Oahu peeps!!!

My fiancé is headed to Oahu for 42 days for work and my work cleared me to go with her! We fly out of Baltimore this upcoming Friday and I took all of next week off. I then start teleworking but I have every Friday off and weekends off. I figured I'd ask the locals (y'all) where the good spots are and what to do!

My fiancé is a total foodie and a huge fan of sushi. What are some local spots to check out? We're headed to Costco when we land to stock up a bit so we're not bleeding money on food but definitely wanna do date night and explore local spots.

We are both HUGE into hiking/exploring. Know any good trails? Love forests/waterfalls/etc.

We both love mountain biking. Know of anyone who can rent us bikes? Or do any of you guys have a couple hardtails or anything laying around that you wouldn't mind if we borrowed? Happy to give a security deposit if needed. If we can score bikes, know of any local trails to check out?

I'm also trying to learn how to surf next week. Know of any spot to snag a surfboard? I know nothing about surfing but I'm really good at throwing a snowboard around so I'm pretty confident I can pick it up.

Know of any other "must do/see" while we're out here?

I know this is a ton of questions but I really didn't want to just go do the typical touristy crap...I'm trying to explore and see the lesser known/secretive spots of the island. Super excited!!

 

Ono Seafoods in Hawaii Kai has killah poke. I think St Louis Heights has a mountain bike trail, not sure on where to rent bikes tho. Dont really hike but l surf. I recommend you take a lesson at least the first time. My buddy Matt works at Ohana Surf Project check um out. Also Moniz Family Surf is another good option.

 

Anybody know good places to refurb and/or powdercoat wheels? Mahalo for any help

Oahu braddahs, anyone know the next best place to get an alignment done. I called Derek at island brake and alignment and he’s gonna be closed till next week Tuesday. Redoing my suspension and I need an alignment on Saturday. I heard scottys in pearl city was good too. Wanting to hear anymore opinions.

I always take my parts to Mekala Powdercoat in Kapolei... 91-361 Komohana Place is their new shop location. Everything that can be removed or even before I've installed it, I've only gone to them. I've spent way too much time going there. Noah is the owner. Wait time is small kine longer. What used to be for me under a week took just over two, which is my latest part I need to go pick up. It's best to do a walk in if you're unsure about the colors you want... but they get plenny of choices and can custom order.

Sorry no, I didn't take any pics, which is bad on my part. But I do have my bed side stiffner and corner brackets not installed... not the best as they are still wrapped up... they are in crinkle black. Mekala has IG and FB... much flashier and diverse colors in those pics
