I doubt that will be detectable TBH, it modifies the running code for sure, but unless they're running full checksum hash checks on ECUs (would require a published list of every checksum of every ECU, which isn't feasible) it shouldn't be detectable since the OVT uses the same version codes and naming conventions as stock tunes.

 

Yeah I read on another forum theyre basically looking for the less advanced tunes that render the vehicle 'not smog ready', which I doubt the OVT one does

 

We dumped a can in my buddy's 22RE just cause, and it stopped blue smoking on hard accel, but it had oil control ring issues, the compression was fine before so we never checked after. Never did cut open the oil filter.

 

Although in that case, those tunes would've been making people fail smog all along so I dunno

 

Exactly, even the extremely devious tune my BMW had wouldn't have been detectable without the BMW OEM tools. To a regular OBD scanner it would appear ready because I told the ECU it never came with a catalyst monitor system at all rather than just disabling it checking... two ways to skin a cat but one looks legit afterward.

 

I have a fly in the left side headlight on the LX470. It came with the truck when I bought it. How it got in there I'll never know. I will need to pull the headlight to vacuum it out through the bulb socket opening. I'm thinking about leaving it there for good luck. Ha!

 

Makes sense, no reason to worry about my 7th piggyback then other than the usual making sure it's hidden from view

 

Yeah they can't see anything there, as long as it isn't trapping the ECU in open loop during testing.

 

There was a mosquito in my 95 Tacoma's guage cluster since 97 that I took out after flooding it

Eh, the 7th isn't exactly cutting edge equip. It can make its changes most effectively when the ECU isn't trying to tune around it, so it kicks the ECU into open loop when it wants to take over fueling and spark command because the ECU is no longer concerned with trimming at that point and the 7th's changes will be reflected more accurately. It's not a dynamic tuning device, it cannot adjust its map on the fly so it has to ensure conditions aren't changing around it to work properly.

I'm getting it installed at LR 4x4 Mud Connection. They are one of the very few places that I trust to do anything with a cruiser. The owners and guys that work there are all 80 and 100 series people. They come out and off-road with us. I'm getting to be buds with them.

The owner has a drop dead gorgeous 80 series VX Diesel (left hand drive) and an equally nice 100 series. They are also going to align and most the SPC caster adjustment forward 1 notch and align it.

They are great for doing the nit picky detailed stuff that burns up so much much my time. The only problem is they are 45 miles away.

There is another place in Little Rock named The Cruiser Company.

They do mostly frame off FJ40-FJ60 frame off "full tilt" restorations. Beautiful work but way way above my pay grade.
