Hospital admits transplanting kidney to wrong patient

A patient at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center received a kidney transplant intended for another person. The hospital is now investigating how the the mix-up happened and two caregivers have been placed on administrative leave, CBS affiliate WOIO reports.

"We are dismayed that an error recently occurred resulting in one patient receiving a kidney intended for another. The kidney is compatible and the patient is recovering as expected. Another patient's transplant surgery has been delayed," University Hospitals said in a statement obtained by WOIO.
The hospital said it is carefully reviewing the situation and has notified the United Network for Organ Sharing, which manages the national organ transplant system.
The hospital also said it has apologized to the families and that this "situation is entirely inconsistent with our commitment to helping patients return to health and live life to the fullest." CBS News has reached out to the hospital system for more information and is awaiting response.

Georgia interstate bridge shifts 6 feet after truck crash; road closed indefinitely

A major Georgia interstate is shut down after a truck caused a bridge to shift six feet.




The Georgia Department of Transportation said Interstate 16 is completely closed from Exit 71 to Exit 78 in Treutlen County.

A truck hit the Georgia 86 bridge and shifted it.

Engineers are on site evaluating a fix. There is currently no timeframe for reopening of the bridge.

Westbound drivers can take Exit 78, turn right onto Highway 221 North, left onto US 80 West, go through the town of Adrian, left onto State Route 15 and re-enter I-16 at Exit 71.

Eastbound drivers can take Exit 71, turn right onto Highway 15 through Soperton, left onto State Route 46, left onto State Route 56 and re-enter I-16 at Exit 78.

It would be interesting to know if it was a freak incident that found a fault in the design or it was just age and deterioration of the bridge.

 

If you look at the twitter pics it looks like a dump truck of some sort hit the bridge.

It's clear then that the irresistible force beat the crap out of the immovable object.

 

I imagine they didn't factor in on a 15+ ton truck hitting the bridge structure at every possible point.
