Just go to your local parts store and look on the rack. They have buckets of those plastic push-in clips.

No need to buy OEM. Those things are probably $3 a piece.

Are those the square shaped ones in the backside? When I replaced the front fender, I broke a bunch of those. I just replaced it with generic plastic pins from this set. I just picked one that fit the best and clipped it in.

I've found the universal "Toyota" clips never fit right. Or they just break too easy for certain applications. Some work fine on low stress pieces but I would rather get used clips from the junkyard than use the new cheap plastic clips.

Anything that would normally be behind that splash guard. wires, tubing, starter, alternator, all that stuff.

But it's not really about damage per se. But it's similar to driving around with your alternator or starter submerged in dirty water, and that's not good for the longevity of the part.

It also just makes a mess of everything any time you drive in the rain, mud, or whatever else.

Rivnuts might also work if you already have a set. Not cost effective if you don't already have it on hand.

If you live any where with road salt used in winter - you need those splash shields. They reduce rust significantly from my experience.
