I meant to say the 265/75r16 come in C load or even SL if you don’t off-road and those are very very light. Alternatively you could get some light weight wheels to offset the difference.

235’s are REAL skinny and look disproportionate IMHO.

Anyone had both falkenwildpeak at3w's and toyo open country at3's?

I'm looking at going to a much skinnier tire, the 235/85-16 size, currently running 285/75-16 wildpeak at3w's. I've really liked them, they've performed well, but the toyo's are about $20/tire cheaper at my tire place, and seem to have great reviews.

I'm in idaho, a fair amount of icy roads and snow, and lots of muddy logging roads where I drive. The falkens have done fairly well in mud, no good in clay (break out the chains) but not looking to go to a mud terrain what with the ampunt of paved road I see.

Curious why 235 instead of 255? 235’s are super thin

Wildpeak at3w isnt listed in a 255 width for 16" wheels. Neither is the toyo, in that aspect ratio. I'm trying to stay as close to a 33" tire as possible, as my odo/speedo is about dead on with my 285/75-16's.

Looking to also save some weight/unsprung mass and rolling resistance. I went from a set of 265/75-16 tires to these 285's and lost about 3mpg. That's added up, and I drive cross country a few times a year.

If I wasn't worried so much about ice traction, I'd just go with a set of 255 width mud tires.

I really enjoyed my pizza cutters when I had them. The truck was very happy moving them around. When I put on the weight, and larger ones; I had to regear.

Not as noticeably, but I feel like I've had to hold my wheel a bit to the left on the highway I take to work since starting this commute. It doesn't seem to do it on the local streets and parking lots.

    255/85/16 BFG KM3

If I stayed at this size I would have gotten a different brand next go around. I loved the tires, but the foot print of the tread is wider on other manufacturers. These skinnies got even skinnier from the side wall down to the tread. If that makes sense.

Installed a set of 35x10.50R17 Kenda Klever R/T's. Went from 285/75R17 BFG KO'2s. These are definitely narrower, and about an inch taller. The truck loves them way more with the 4.88's on my 2nd gen. Going to take some inner firewall clearance to get them to fully clear at stuff. But that was expected. I cleared for 315/75R16's way back when so these fit, but no getting crazy at high speeds just yet.

Alright gents, question of the century:

What's the tallest and lightest skinny tire? I want to find something in an SL that is tall but it seems impossible. The BFG 34x10.5x17 looks to be the lightest of the "34's" category, even though its actually shorter than non-34's. So I'm lost. hahaha.

If you want tall and skinny you might wanna take a look at the new Baja Boss A/T in 255/85R17. MT lists their weight at 64lbs which is 5lbs more than the 255/85R16 BFG KM3, but also a diameter of 34.6 vs 33.1 with the KM3s.

Those are definitely tempting thanks to their size, but pretty sure thats about 25lbs heavier per tire than what is on my truck now. I've seen some other options in a wider 285/75r17 coming in at 55-56lbs, really thought skinnier tires would be lighter!

Exactly. Was hoping there's a diamond in the rough somewhere of a tall skinny SL :p
