I’m looking to get new tires next Friday and cant choose between 255/75/17 or moving up an inch to 255/80/17. I will be getting an eibach pro lift installed with the icon leaf pack so looking at about a 2” lift. Will 255/80/17 clear UCA and fender on stock rims?

I recommend you do lots of research before buying anything, there's alot more to lifting these trucks and just throwing on a set of wheels. Good luck with your truck and welcome to TW.

Check out the 275/70/17 size, those will fit just fine and are about an inch bigger than stock

    - ICON UCAs, BP51/Kings, SCS wheels, 285s, Leer 100XR canopy. Greenlane aluminum winch bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch. Trying Falken AT3w now, Really like BF KO2s.
The offset on the sport wheels is not enough for 275s. You will rub the uca.

I’ve unfortunately spent so much time reading through different threads and still have not seen a definitive answer. On the other hand, I’ve seen plenty say the 255/75s will fit sport rim without rubbing ucas. My main concern is the offset

I would like to keep the stock rims. From what I’ve read, there may be some rubbing on uca with 285s, but it’s all speculative and I haven’t seen anyone confirm from experience

There is a ton of information out there on this subject; finding it is, however, is time consuming. You know enough to be looking at offset, tire width and diameter so there is some good information in the following thread: Looking to get bigger tires | Tacoma World

It may not all be conclusive for your particular truck but the info in NOT speculative and it is all based on experience and data. No doubt you also know enough that there are more varibles that just offset, tire width and diameter. If you get under your truck and look, with stock rims and tires the inside wall of the tire sidewall is already very close to the UCA. That is not going to change so a tire wider than 265 without a customized front end alignment (or different offset) is going to make that specific problem worse.

I've been trying to read and keep track of what people are running. The Gen 2 and 3 suspensions are not that different. What I've read and experienced myself is with typical OE offsets (+25 or more), stock suspension, and factory alignment people seem to be running 255/75-16's to 265/65-18's. That indicates that without at least changing the wheel offset, the limits are tires that are roughly 10.5" wide (or less) and less than 32" in diameter. That can change considerably when you start using wheels with an offset of <+10 to 0, and -10 or more.

Another big factor, as you already know, is when you lift 2" or more. If you find these fact based generalizations are not accurate, I sure would like to hear about it. By the way, today, I'm running a 2014 DCSB 4X4 Sport with 265/70-18s and ~2" of lift with factory caster and camber settings. The only thing I had to cut about 1" off the bottom of the front of the OE mudflaps. With this setup, and on an incline greater than 15 degrees I can turn the steering wheel lock to lock going up or down the incline coming and going in either Drive or Reverse.

My next set of tires will be 275/70-18's but by then I will have wheels with a -12 offset to accommodate tires that are .25" wider. There is also a slight increase in sidewall which will also get me into a 33" diameter tire. I know of a couple of Gen 3 trucks with 2" of lift that are running 255/80-17's (10.04 wide and 33.06 diameter). This is the fact that I'm using to feel confident with my 33.16 inch diameter tire. Once I have these tires on, and they have some on and off road miles on them, I would like to make one more step up in size to 275/75-18's. By then my ICON Stage 2 setup will be worn and I plan to make the changes nessary to increase my lift to 3" to accommodate 34" tires. My concern is this may also lead me into having to do a cap mount chop. If that is the case, I'll abort and stick with the 33" tires.

Hope this helps. My apologies if it doesn't. Your experience may vary...

I really appreciate the answer! I definitely won’t be going with anything wider than a 265 cause I know I’ll have problems rubbing the UCAs with the stock sport rims.

Another large factor I’m taking into consideration is the weight of the tire. It seems to be the 255/75/17s come in load range SL and C while 255/80/17s are primarily all E. Not quite sure how much of a hit I would take on my MPG and I do have a lengthy commute

I ran 265x70x17, full 3" FOX lift, but did change out my UCA to SPC.

Are those duratracs? My top option right now are the 255/75/17 duratracs.. had some on my 4runner and really liked them

Yes, ran them for 40K miles, then Moab killed them. Running Pirille Scorpions now, 285x70x17 and Kings.

If I were to get some 0 offset rims, do you think I’d have any problems running the 255/80/17s? I really wanted to stick with OEM, but to achieve fitting a larger tire I think that’s not an option

It should work, whoever is installing them should work with you if your going to spend $1000+ and do a prefit. 1st set I installed fit with no problems. Post some pics when you get those new shoes mounted.

I don't think you are too far off. The 255/80-17's are 32.06" tall and 10.04" wide. Thats ~.5" narrower and ~.5" taller than two tires I know will fit which are 265/70-17's which I ran on my 2007 DCSB 4X4 Sport and the 265/65-18's that came on my 2014 DCSB 4X4 Sport.

Keeping in mind that you have a Gen 3, if the tires touch any part of the truck it will be the bottom of the front mud flaps and possibly the apex of the tire hitting some part of the back of the inside wheel well under lock to lock conditions (but I DO NOT think so). I wish I could say for certain but I've got a Gen 2. But the facts say the tire you want is narrower which I think offsets a very slightly larger diameter when compared to two tires I know fit. I would stick with what you want before I settled for second best.

I wish I could be sure but like we've already covered, there are a lot of variables. Listen to @Mully, a test fit will tell you

If you are worried about the risk because you want to order the tires over the internet, you are so close that 5100 Bilsteins in the front and an AAL in the back would level your truck and raise it just enought to fit the tires you want for (poor mans lift until you can afford what you really want).

I will be lifted before these come on. Have the eibach pro truck lift and icon rxt full leaf pack waiting to be installed.

As much as I want true 33s, I think the practical and best option will be 255/75/17s. I won’t be wheeling to much, mainly highway miles and a few dirt roads here and there.

Best of luck. While luck is not a very good strategy doing your homework is. You should be all set

Well, I decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on some 255/75/17 duratracs. I’ll post pictures next weekend once everything comes to fruition!
