Friend brought this by the store yesterday evening and ask if I can fix it. He tried to drill it, it’s off center and it has an easy out broke off in it :annoyed:

Solid carbide is your friend here. Run the tooling in a collet so it runs true. High rpms and no cutting fluid. Center drill then tap drill or slightly under. Then pick, punch and chisel.

Even a center cutting carbide end mill. After you get a hole through it and drill or mill operation is done, squirt a little foo-foo on there while it's still warm.

Sometimes these situations, I'll lock the quill down a ways, then feed up with the knee, more control and rigidity.

Oh, and if it's a through hole, work it on the back side. Using RH cutters ya never know, might be your lucky day and get to spin out. Unlikely given that off center deal pretty much got it staked in there:rofl:
Looks like a fun challenge lol, seriously

This isn’t the first time this mill has done this, I wrote a program and tried to draw it and it locked up. I reset it and got the dreaded split screen.

Used a carbide 3/16” end mill and got the easy out out and through then went to 3/8” carbide, drilled it X, tapped it 7/16-14 and installed a 5/16-18 thread insert.

The Toyota is nice -- the Rotary in floor lifts are really, really nice! How do you like working with them?

Just another day at work ;)

The guy this is for said his truck has been down for a week, he’s ordered two of these and they sent the wrong one both times. He was on his last straw with me, I’m glad it was fairly easy

This is EXACTLY why I follow this thread. Not because I'm ever going to do things like this but because the process is so foreign to me that I'm thoroughly intrigued and confused at the same time as to how things like this are done.

    Bravo, Shane! :fistbump:
