I love my tonneau. It keeps things dry in the bed and gives me the ability to lock things up, and also prevents people from tossing trash in my truck bed. I did this for the same reason you're thinking about doing it, now just need the trailer.
My only hang up is that I would like to have the ability to carry a kayak and a bike on a rack, and there are few options. Fortunately, more things are being made every day.

 

Do that and I would say you need glasses more than a winch....

 

Mine just arrived today. Gonna install it tomorrow. Sadly, I didn’t buy it for those extreme outdoor camping trips, or for tailgating at the game. I bought it so that when we are changing the baby in the Target parking lot on the tailgate, she will be more comfortable for those several minutes. Also so the kids have somewhere to set their drinks while playing outside.

 

I got my front coilovers installed.

 

Raised up my Overhaul HD rack to a better height (25” *back down to 24” for those who it might benefit, boat 2” over the roof after tightening down the straps) for our kayaks and found some pads that fit the thick bar well, Dakine Aero XL. Also blacked out the Tacoma door badges and removed the v6. Lastly, installed the dash ram mount and meso’s black vent rings. I can’t wait for my wheels, tires and lift to get here, really itching for those to go on…

I only have fronts. The extra recline gives a lot of extra thigh support and less stress on my lower spine.

I had a 2000 reg cab Prerunner 4 banger automatic that was bulletproof. The 2.7 didn't have the timing chain cover issue like my 1987 22RE had. I sold mine to a guy with 160k miles. He drove it for years and had roughly 230k miles when he sold it. The only issues I had were the infamous axle wrap and a transmission solenoid wire broke inside the transmission housing (wire nut and tape repair). He did nothing more than routine maintenance. Both of us eventually ended up with a 3rd gen and then, recently, I sold mine to go back to another 2nd gen. I think that at least half of Tacoma owners can relate to these stories. That's why we keep buying Tacomas of any gen.

 

I've had Tacomas of all 3 Generations and will continue into the 4 generation. Love them all
