    Mine, finders keepers!

Naw, I found a pure aluminum deposit still visible at the bottom of the hole.

I use a very similar shovel (Lesche 31" T-handle) primarily for cutting grass plugs. I use a Lesche digging tool prolly 90% of the time.
My buddy and I got out yesterday and talked about shovel usage. He uses his shovel the majority of the time, whether in grass, sand, hardpack, or what have you. So, it's really a preference thing. I do like the serrated shovel you have pictured. Good for cutting roots.

Thanks for your helpful reply! I did get the smaller Lesche red handled tool, that works very well. I will try out that shovel, it may work well and I wont have to bend over so much. I was using my Apex prospecting pick to try to dig through hard clay soil and it was just punching little holes in it, so I thought that shovel I can push in with my foot may help, but I may just have to use a standard long handled pick to detect the site now, it’s really hard. It can wait for rain I guess.

The site has potential, it’s a vacant lot today, but used to be an old train depot as late as 1908.

Train depots can be fantastic producers! Did it cease operations in 1908? If so, that site sounds like prime detecting real estate!

The trains ran through the area 1880-1935, the depot was on the 1908 Sanborn map, so I’m guessing it is at least that old. It will be interesting to detect, and is close by. Havent done much detecting for historic stuff, it will be fun.

    Really, a pull tab?

I,ve just been practicing where it’s shady and easy digging in a trashy area containing all sorts of junk including some newer pennies and dimes. A perfect training area. I didn’t think a Nox could go that deep, pretty surprised.

What’s the deepest you’ve ever found a pulltab at? I was using the 11” coil. I’m only used to using a little one for gold, haven’t tried urban detecting yet so I’m still learning…

Yeah I think I beat that on this one, the scoop is at least 10 inches, and the hole was still deeper than it.

Yeah, the Lesche diggers are really good and sturdy, but in heavy rocky type soil even they can't withstand that kind of abuse.
