yea I'm not trying to soundproof it, just want to attenuate the sound a bit, because our house is small and there's no barrier between the washer/dryer and our living room, so if we're doing laundry and watching TV, it's a bit annoying.

At my old house I put a pocket door between the laundry room and TV room. It was just about as good as a regular door in regard to sound damping. A pocket door has case work all around it. The only place it lacked was where the door met the jam. I don't think a barn door would work as well.

I bought some stuff from them for 3 rolling doors. I didn’t want barn look hardware and they have a lot of options. Made in USA, it’s very well made stuff, but it is not inexpensive.

I got a great deal on a solid mahogany 3’ that I used to separate the “entertaining” area ( kitchen/dining/living room) from the rest of the house
@OffroadJet ’s idea of finding some salvage doors was a good one if u go this route

I'll need 2x 4 foot doors so I doubt salvage will be an option.

I’m just going to ask, is this a good deal on a 2050 sq/ft house? Removing popcorn, skim, paint smooth

Do the little bits circled look like ants? I'm really hoping not termites. I noticed one of the rails on a fence post pulling out, and things things started scurrying around when I started messing with the fence to fix it. Sorry for the size/quality; it's the best I could get.

I just went to the local Restore and they had so many doors there. youll be surprised what you find if you have one of those or Goodwill near you.

I thought it was high too, but haven't gotten any other quotes.
I did some google research on home improvement forums and reddit and even years ago people were paying $2 and up a sq/ft and not even getting finished products, or getting textured ceilings and I'm going for smooth.

It's hard enough to get anyone to come to your house and do any work or give a quote.

Hard to tell from the picture. Are the antennae straight out from the head or do they go out to the side first? Does it look like the body is straight or does it look sectioned?

Coming from someone that just finished doing this in his own house of the same size, I think that’s a good price. I had a drywall guy come and do some skimming after I removed the popcorn. He charged $600 plus materials for about 800 sq ft and did a shit job. So much so I didn’t have him come back to finish and ended up finishing it myself. Get references. Getting the caulk / old texture out of the crown corners was a pain for me since the crown was applied after the popcorn (not sure if that is normal or not). Looks great now though.

Is your popcorn painted over? If not remove it yourself. Spray bottle and a scraper.

    Even still its high imo

Does the popcorn ceiling have asbestos in it?

My first house had an asbestos popcorn ceiling. Got one quote :spending::spending::spending::spending: and said yeah, let's just seal that shit in place with a nice coat of paint. Honestly the finished painted ceiling wasn't too bad.

Seems reasonable, because it's very labor intensive and materials and time add up quickly. The ceilings will soak up a TON of primer after too.

The only time I had this done was on a 1800ish sqft single story rental with high ceilings as part of a home insurance claim after a major roof leak. (Scrape and re-texture.) They didn't do the bedrooms or bathrooms and I think I paid around $1200-1500. I did the priming and painting myself for the entire house after. (About $1000-$1200 for Valspar primer and Sherwin Williams duration flat interior.)

I should have had the whole thing done at once, but I was working with a tight budget and the rest of the house ceilings weren't included in the claim. Plus, I was already on a time crunch with redoing most of the floors, priming and painting, and of course the drywall repairs.

If you have the time I'd suggest trying a small bedroom yourself and then see if you're willing to pay someone. The scraping is the easy part. The prep and re-texture isn't. It's a ton of work. You really need to find someone with solid reviews too. It takes a certain skill set. You'll probably need to move a lot of furniture too.

    I'll leave it at that.
