    Hi all,
So yesterday we attended a birthday party, there was an individual that recently purchased his very first Tacoma.
Couple of months ago when I heard he bought one I contacted him and congratulated him...he only replied with a "yes"...I thought he wanted to chat about it and stuff...nope. So yesterday I saw his Tacoma Sport for the first time, I thought nice truck. Buddy went on to say how my OR is completely the same...I thought 'oh boy. Yes, they are the same for the most part but different...at one point he was bragging how he has a sunroof and I don't...when he was done talking my Tacoma down I said to him this: buddy, mine it's an off road model...it has some mechanical and electronic differences...!, now this individual is not a kid, he is an older person that's actually retired.
Out of all this I realized how weird some people can be!, who cares what are the differences !, I have true friends that drive all models and not once did we act immature towards each other...regardless of the trim models. Have any of you guys encountered anything like this?, unfortunately I run into this individual about twice a year...

    Like, so many.
The dude just kinda seems like a know it all to me. I’m a little surprised he didn’t brag about his hood scoop.

My TRD Sport is a “Sport”, therefore it’s a race car which means it’s faster than yalls trucks. Nah jk I can barely hit 80 in this thing

First of all, I’d guess less than a fraction of a hair of a percent of people join online forums to rant and rave about their vehicle. Likewise, only my car nut friends even know their engine size, let alone any other technical aspects. Secondly, he totally has a sun roof! :lalala:

Yes. There are different things that folks are into. Look back at all the craze for the special edition PT Cruisers. I knew a person that bought two as investments.

A sunroof is as functional and important to your friend as others features on your Taco.

In the end, good on you for recognizing that the differences between Tacos is relatively minor compared to the total package.

Sounds like he was jealous of the extras your offroad has, and needed to pump himself up and justify buying the different model.
When people are d bags, its always because of their own issues, not yours. What a knob.

All that matters is what you need it for. Some people need to feel better about themselves and point those things out. I've been guilty of falling into that as well. I love my TRDOR and wouldn't want anything else.

I have a coworker who just got a 2019 4Runner Limited, Nightshade. We also have a base model 2019 SR5 4Runner and it does everything we need it to and we don't have to worry about the bells and whistles breaking.

Or he didn't know the differences.

I find it better to just not engage with people like that, who constantly have to loudly promote themselves, especially when they're putting down others at the same time. Self-promotion is a sign of insecurity. They already think of themselves as insignificant, it's better to just say "yup", let them crow, and not beat the llittle pissants down further with facts or reality.

ie: "My Tacoma is the greatest, BIGLY!"

I'm guessing he likely remembers the technobabble the 20 year old salesman told him as he was trying to sell him the only Tacoma they had on the lot.

Even when people get old the dick waving never stops, so at the next gathering just show up in a Ford Raptor

If someone asks me "why a sport?", I tell them because I wanted a double cab/manual trans and wasn't willing to pay for a Pro.
..and that would be the truth.
