I’ve recently found that two issues I’ve been having, are also happening to any others, who own 2016, 17, 18, and 10 model Tacoma’s. This being the case, and the fact that Toyota has known about these issues over several model years, costing us all $$$, what’s it going to take to get them to do a recall and fix this stuff for free, the right way???
I’ve had to replace my BSM harness twice since 2016, and my third brake light is leaking into the cab - and the repair is not covered under warranty! I don’t have $900 to replace the brake assembly- which the dealership says can only be fixed with a complete assembly, since Toyota doesn’t have just a gasket!

Call Toyota and open a case against the dealer for not honoring a tsb on the third brake light leak . The other part I’m not familiar with . But if you get Toyota involved they usually will work with you to get the repairs done. .

call Toyota’s hotline number. They’ll see your trucks history if the repairs been performed at the dealer and maybe they’ll help you out.

What is a BSM harness? I think the 3rd brake light leaking is located far enough away from anything that delicate.

Recalls are technically NOT issued by the manufacturer, they are issued/ forced on the manufacturer by NHTSA. If you believe your truck has a safety concern that Toyota is not addressing then you would need to file a complaint with NHTSA. After enough complaints NHTSA will investigate and require a recall if warranted.

Auto manufacturers issue technical service bulletins (TSB's for short). TSB's instruct the dealers that the manufacturer is aware of a recurring problem and will outline what the dealership may do at Toyota's expense to make the customer happy.

Usually if its a toyota factory safety recall they will mail you a notice to schedule your truck for it. You can even inquire if any tsb's are listed for your truck by calling a dealer....if so the will look into them.

What's going on with your blind-spot monitor harness? Why has it had to be replaced twice?

Unfortunately, both are only technical service bulletins.

The BSM issue seems like it should be bumped to a recall, but as others have pointed out, there probably just aren't enough failures to warrant a recall.

All you can do is fork over the cash to a Toyota dealer, fork over some cash to an independent mechanic, or fix it yourself. Personally, I'd be looking at fixing it myself.

The BSM harness is a water/moisture thing for every bad one I've heard of that was troubleshot correctly. Mine was the same, dealer replaced it and the sensors on their dime. I have packed the harness connectors with dielectric grease and so far no more problems.

Do you have $70 to replace the third brake light assembly? https://www.ebay.com/itm/284112164201
You can also cut your own gasket out of 3M VHB or try something permanent like 3M Windo-Weld adhesive.

You can get the gasket here, it's single sided and use clear silicone on the other side.

why would they apply a TSB if it's out of warranty

that is not at all what a TSB is bruh

I think it might stand for something
    Technical Service Bulletin
    I've never heard FTSB though
    (Free Technical Service Bulletin)

    Oh.
So the advisor, whose computer does not have access to TSB's (only technicians do)
is going to "look into TSB's" for you?

    Almost makes ya wonder,
why they always respond "Nope there's none"
when every vehicle ever made probably has at least 20 even if your particular VIN doesn't have the issue
