7/17/21 Meetup at AOAA

Great to meet everyone was able to make it out!

 

An F250, I was surprised he got through some of the turns lol.

I think this gives me a good reason to get sliders… really until this I didn’t really think about them. Good thing Labor Day and sales are in a little over a month… just gotta find some I like.

 

Had a blast at AOAA yesterday with the boys! I’d say for green trails, those were pretty extreme. Can’t wait to make another trip like that in the future. Hell even my brother with his F250 said that he might have to pick up a Toyota to keep up with me! Such an awesome group of guys and had a beautiful day till the park closed

 

How were the other trails you guys went on?

 

A fair bit more intense. Rocks, gulleys, hills, lots of dynamic movements and negotiating

 

Damn, lol. Well, at least I know what to expect at a minimum with green.

Soon! I want to do the next one with wives/girlfriends/boyfriends/spiritual partners. I'm thinking it shall involve camping! That way there can be beer. And campfire steaks!

 

Lessons learned:

Bring thick-soled shoes, ideally boots. I ended up with about an inch-and-a-half triangle of glass wedged in my shoe which cut my foot.
Bring extra GoPro batteries. Mine was depleted less than half-way through the first loop, and didn't get much decent footage.
Remember to bring my damn tow hitch. We luckily didn't need it this time, but I forgot it.
Ensure everyone downloads the map before hand.
The map is nice, but not necessarily accurate; we ended up taking an extra loop at the end of the day thanks to unmarked or poorly drawn trails on the eastern side.
Have more people with cameras or GoPros. It may help to send someone ahead on foot, beyond obstacles, to set up a go pro on the side of the path to record people negotiating the obstacles.
If your radio is not picking up others on the same channel but they can hear you, apparently you don't have to find the RIGHT interference channel; you can simply turn them off.
On the road, other people drive like dicks.


Needs for my truck:
Aluminum front bumper, with winch for recovery. I hit a tree and had to pop my bumper back into place. I still need to replace my LF fog lamp, hopefully just the bulb.
Rear diff skid plate
Rock sliders

I am, though I have not done a thorough inspection to see how high; I bought my Taco pre-owned, and the last owner put some work in, I believe.

1/3 of the screen is taken up by my headlight. I can record better footage next time.

 

Thats much better than the dash dam footage I have. Once I get it on YouTube or something I’ll share it
