I ordered 12/20. After 4 months no truck. Started looking at inventory and found mine in Raleigh over 400 miles away. Delivery was going to be June 21st. They gave me 1500 bucks off MSRP. The crazy part was my trade. In December my trade value was 25500. In June at time of sell I got 31k for my 2018 Highlander. I came out pretty good.

I think the shortage will end when the 4th gen comes out. The 3rd gen owners that like the latest and greatest will trade in for it.

“Borrowed currency” is the added national debt that will be owed by our kids and grandkids for the stimulus payments. Money isn’t free ;)
And I don’t buy the percentages you quote, I and many others who kept working didn’t need “free money” our kids and grandkids will be in debt for. It should have went only to those who needed it. I’ve also read many put it into savings. provide a link to your source - sounds like a smoke and mirrors “study”.
Try this report, for the second and third rounds of stimulus payments 26% and 32% of people put it into savings.

Savings and house projects. We did both. So did gazillions of others, that's why contractors are busier than a one legged man in a bucket kicking contest.

I don't want to get into the politics of the stimulus checks because, well, everyone thinks they are an expert but remain impervious to facts or reason. Also, politics here is a no no.

This article in the WSJ was pretty interesting. Note Toyota did buy ahead a fair amount of parts and that paid off for them:

"Toyota Motor Corp.’s decision to build a stockpile of chips for its cars paid off by lifting it above perennial top dog General Motors Co. in the U.S. for the first time ... Toyota bet earlier than most car makers on a recovering U.S. car market. As a result, the company cut production and parts orders less sharply than competitors, making it better prepared for the current surge ... "

I have to hand it to the Toyota planning department. Doesn't mean they have been perfect but they are doing better than most.

No that's not gonna happen. I can't see how a 2018 Tacoma SR with TSS is going to be any safer than a 2017 Tacoma SR with out TSS.

Agree, but competition has their versions of TSS, so it is not going away.

you must be in a completely different area. You’d never find one that cheap in KY. And OTD….that’s hard to believe a Toyota dealer sold you that for about 32k plus TTL when you can turn around and sell to carvana for like 38k. This is hard to believe for me honestly

I agree but hey who knows. Even a bare bones 2wd is pushing 35k msrp I think.

haha I don’t think there are any bare bones 2wd for 35. I think those start around 26k. My SR DCSB 4x4 V6 stickered at 34,996 is actually very well equipped. Even dual climate control!

Yeah I meant a DCSB OR 2wd stickers bare bones for about 34.5k. I don’t know what his TTL was, but if he got it for 34.5k OTD that’s a phenomenal price these days.

Inflation is ridiculous these days. I'm keeping my 2017 for a while as it's got less than 11k miles on it. All the new Tacoma's, if you can find one, are 10-15k more than what I bought mine for. The few upgrades these trucks have gotten since then can easily be retrofitted to my 2017 much cheaper than buying a new truck. I'd like to see the new 2022 Tundra in person though. Maybe I'll trade.

My truck is paid for…. I can get a new 2021 SR5 Access Cab 4WD for $35,700 plus TTT. Dealer is holding it for me now. Have a buyer for my 2017 at 30k…Mods shocks tires etc. will be $7500. With remainder down, my payment will be $275-300 60 months, but I payoff earlier… Main reason I want to sell is I’m over the 35”s and regear - mileage sucks and I’m afraid the gears will break again, already happened once, and warranty was not honored by Nitro… Another factor is will there be a shortage of new trucks in the future and will there be inflation that would make buying no wise… big decision here… thoughts???

A friend is an engineer at Ford. I asked about the overall shortage of new vehicles, and how long it may last. He said "this is not going to go away anytime soon." Not only chips, but raw materials as well.
