So I drive about 300 miles a day in my 2011 reg cab 4x4 as an auto parts delivery driver for Toyota. My drivers seat cushion has literally started to deteriorate and crumble out the bottom of the seat and it’s slanted to the side now. It’s KILLING my back.
I absolutely need to get a new set of seats. My truck never had beach seats. It’s a bucket seat model.
I’m having a seriously hard time finding any seats that are direct swap and all of my local upholstery shops are quoting me insane prices for refurbishing and recovering the seats.

Anybody have any recommendations where I should look for either 2nd or 3rd gen seats? Or if there are any other Toyota seats that are a direct swap or require little modification to swap?

I’m not getting a new truck. I’ve had it for a decade and I’m not getting rid of it. I don’t mind spending a little bit of money but I’m not spending $1000 getting the current seats refurbished.

im very desperate at this point. My back hates me lol

Any good quality aftermarket replacements will run between 700- 1500 per seat and can be more. Driving 300 miles a day I wouldn’t go cheap.

The main issue I’m having is that I also need an entirely new suspension. All my struts/springs/leafs are completely shot and seats aren’t the only thing I need to keep my truck working and making me money. I’m going to have to split the middle with both because both my suspension and seats are on borrowed time.

Have you looked for used seats? 2005-2021 seats use the same bolt holes.

I’m confused, you work for Toyota and they can’t provide you a new truck?

You can't possibly be serious... are you?

Because if that's the case I need to work for a new home builder.

I’m a contractor… I get good discounts but not enough to make OEM seats a viable option…

I’ve checked all my local junk/scrapyards. None of them have 2nd or 3rd gen seats, let alone Tacoma’s in general. I’m probably going to have to make a road trip out of state to find them from the looks of it.

Corbeau's Moab seats are the best deal i've seen as far as new aftermarket seats go.

Unfortunately sometimes you have to spend money to make money.

This is very true, oh but buying a new set of seats would cost me nearly a months paycheck… Not really feasible at the moment. I found a set of FRS seats and the exact brackets I need to do the FRS swap, only thing I would need is to rewire the driver seat and somehow find a way to have an emulator module built for the passenger seat. At the very least I would be able to swap out just the driver seat until I could find a way to safely modify the passenger seat. That’s still gonna cost me up all in about $1000. I’m going to give it a couple of weeks before I spend the money and see if I can find second or third generation takeoff seats, even if that means driving out of state. I would be willing to drive eight hours possibly more to find a good set of takeoff Tacoma seats

I can understand money can be tight or maybe work is slow. But the tool(your truck) that you make your living with you are letting fall apart. My truck is my work vehicle and I assure you there’s not an oil change, service or any needed item that’s not immediately fixed when needed. That’s like a carpenter letting his saws fall apart, a mechanic having missing tools etc. Good luck and I hope you get it figured out.

That’s kind of my point, I keep it mechanically flawless, but money wise that’s all I can afford to do. I’m getting a new suspension on the cheap, and I’m going to have to wait it out to find a good deal on the seats. This is a job to hold me over til I’m done with real estate school and get my license. Once that happens my truck will be in better than new condition. But until then I have to find a fix that I can afford. And that’s also the problem. I can’t afford most scenarios. The one fix I can afford I can’t actually do because the Toyota FRS seat swap I originally planned is no longer feasible because the emulator module is no longer made for the passenger seat.
I’m contemplating buying a single seat just for the drivers side at this point now too. No matter how rediculous it looks.

Corbeau seats are very comfortable and very affordable. I have the LG-1’s
FYI - the component that you need for the passenger seat is called a “ occupant detection bypass module “ , it is a very simple device and you could probably wire one up yourself.

how expensive were those seats? I was thinking of just replacing the drivers seat for now and getting a passengers seat later on.
I’ve done almost no electrical work my whole life. Never wired anything up beyond repairing a set of headphones or fixing an AC plug…

That’s actually not bad at all. But the FRS seats with the bracket would only be about $100 more. How hard would it be for an electrical noob to make the module you speak of? Any write ups on here? I searched the FRS seat swap thread and didn’t see a how to for that.

I swapped in a pair of corbeau seats. Very easy. I swapped over the airbag sensor (looks like a balloon) to the passenger seat. Its been a few years and I've forgotten the details of the electrical. The driver side swap is super easy. Stock seats are very hard to find in good shape used unfortunately.
