Adventures With Gritto, Part 1

Now that my ankle is healed up...
...Mrs Gritto and I plan to go on a little adventure Wednesday.
Pictures to follow later this week.

We're gonna visit the "Lost Avenue" on the Gettysburg Battlefield...Neill Avenue.
99.99% of visitors to Gettysburg never see it.
I'd venture to say that probably 99% of Gettysburg residents have never even heard of it.
Park Service people and a small number of experts on the battle know of it.
Neill Avenue marks the extreme right flank of the infantry of the Army of the Potomac during the battle.

So if you ever visit Gettysburg and want to see something out of the way...read on.

I discovered it as a teenager tramping through the woods near my Parents' place...
...which was a farmhouse and barn with 6 acres on the Baltimore Pike near Rock Creek.
(My Dad was working for the PA Dept of Agriculture at the time.)

There's a way to get there that doesn't involve trespassing (as I used to do).
You drive to the end of Clapsaddle Road (as seen on the map screenshots below), and park your vehicle.
Then you hike the Park Service Access Trail for the better part of a mile.
On either side of the trail is private property, plastered with Posted signs...heh.
Which helps let you know you're going the right way.

It's very quiet and secluded.
