There are over a dozen for sale around me.

All overpriced by $100K, or more.

My neighbor overpaid when she bought her house...then was grossly overpaid when she sold it to a flipping company. I hope the market tanks RIGHT NOW so they take a loss. Because fuck 'em - my tax rate has doubled because of this bullshit.

Actually, your tax rate hasn't doubled. Your tax bill has increased, because tax rate * appraised value = tax bill, and your appraised value has skyrocketed.

I've bitched about this for years, (especially as half of my tax bill every year goes to educate the results of other people's late night Bud Light Boogaloos), but it's useless. The next time you see a pol talking about reducing the rate will be the first time.

Yup, now you are starting to sound like the marketing person,,, "but OUR tax rate hasn't changed in xx years..." That is correct, it is you ignorant pustules that buy with little regard to value that cause the bills to rise exponentially. ;)

I think you need to re-read what I wrote, if your "ignorant pustules" comment was directed at me.

I believe the "ignorant pustules" description is aimed at the fuckwit turdburglar who buys a $380K home for $500K.

Thanks. Without venturing too far into politics, and inviting the ban hammer, I did tell the former Leander mayor that his campaigning on keeping the tax rate flat meant nothing to me, as even with that, the city revenues will be going up, with two factors driving those numbers:

    1. New construction
    2. Increased appraisal values
Fortunately, that clown was voted out. Unfortunately, his replacement hasn't been able to make that much of a difference in my main problem as a taxpayer, cleaning the shoulders of Ronald Reagan from time to time, so that those of us crazy enough to ride bicycles on them don't have to ride through all the :censored:. Leander doesn't even have a street sweeper, ffs, they contract the work out, and the guy that heads up Public Works evidently just pays invoices without checking to see if the work was done. I told the mayor I'd take care of the accountability issue she seemed to be having with her employees, but they wouldn't like it. Cities shouldn't be able to annex areas, if they don't have the infrastructure to maintain the level of service needed.

Oh, crap! Now I sound like one of those rich bastages that want to disannex from the city of Austin!:rofl::rofl:

Actual pictures of the street sweeping my tax dollars pay for. Can you say "lazy ass"? I don't think that possum is going to make it, he's been there for 3 months...

Check the price on this one. It last sold for $329K in 2018, and was in the Statesman Saturday. Okay, I know the Statesman is full of morons these days, but I bet the realtor got a couple of calls...

My BIL bought a new build just around the corner from there on Hereford Loop when they were still only a few houses there. Sold it earlier this year for about the same asking price as that house and moved out to Briarcliff. Its amazing what people will pay for housing out in the Hutto area.
