Y’a I know it’s a truck bla bla bla, so who cares?

Well I’ve got 5800 miles on my truck and I’ve been noticing lately that the gas mileage has changed for the better - no idea why.

At first my tank average back and forth to work was around 17. Now with no change in my driving habits I’m averaging 20-21. On the highway I usually do 27-28. Sometimes 30. No I don’t live in a flat area.

    Not complaining just curious.

2800 miles on mine currently. See signature. Mix of city/highway/elevation around colorado. Hoping to see an increase as time progresses but happy so far.

Truck has learned your habits and has been broken in. No big deal.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
8,200 miles on my '21 TRD OR AC Auto.
Overall average from day 1 = 18.3 mpg
Best was last week on a 500 mile round-trip to Burlington VT = 21.2 mpg
    Last 6 fill-up average = 19.2 mpg
All of the above was calculated based on fill-up gallonage. The truck's calculation is typically off by about 0.3 mpg (shows less than calculated).
    -
With both my '06 and now my '21 I see improvement over time and accumulated miles.
Some say it's due to 'break-in' - others attribute it to an adjustment of driving habits.
    I feel it's a bit of both.
I'm liking where my '21 is headed compared to the '06.
Not liking the reduction in power and responsiveness compared to the 4.0V6 with M/T.
But since I'm heading into retirement I guess I can live with better fuel mileage and the fact that I really don't need to be anywhere in a hurry.

Little trip taken this past weekend. Combination highway/two lane back roads. This is pretty typical for summer driving:

    20210717_173545.jpg

That's 24 mpg. I'm also running 265/70/17 Falken Wildpeaks in SL.

Compared to me y’all have pretty good gas mileage. I usually get about 13-15 MPG.

Got the 5.29 regear coming in November so hopefully that helps. I’m sure increasing throttle response on my OVtune brought it down another tick.

Have you tried High Octane fuel?

It has been said that the high octane boosts HP and MPG.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
90,000 on mine and I average in the mid-teens. I stopped looking because I don't care. It's not like I will drive it less or more depending upon some figure. It performs as required so I use it and feed it gas, oil, grease, and other fluids that it likes to consume.

Mostly 340,000 miles of wear on the '96. A sharp looking Gasshole for the '21
MPG in my '21 ticked up after a few thousand miles - so I guess that's a thing. My MPG is very fuel dependent. 23.9 on 100% gas 22.4 on Corn gas. And that's consistent over several identical round trips since April. (2021 Taco),
My '96 still hits 27-29 when I drive like an old man, which I am now so just go ahead and pass me dammit.
My worst MPG in the '96 Taco was driving from Utah to Alabama - While in Utah a family of mice made a home in my air filter box. In Kearney Nebraska I was like WTFO?
BTW - I care, I'll drive these trucks as long as I and they are alive, so MPG equal money lost or saved. Saved $$$ goes into treats for the trucks.

I don’t think my tank average in my taco was ever over 18.5. And normally averaged around 16.5-17. What’s sad is with my new fullsized truck that I am a lot heavier on the throttle because I love hearing the V8 purr, I get 16.4 average with.
