Costco program sounded like the way to go, but in my case it only gave me $500 (maybe $600, I forget) off of MSRP...unfortunately this dealer also tacked on almost $2000 in tint, paint protection junk that they weren't willing to budge on. It was cheaper to go with a non-Costco dealer at MSRP and willing to not try to scam me out of more money.

I think the key right now is getting big $$ for trade while finding a dealer that will even get you MSRP -$500 or so. Seattle area dealers adding in $6k for “market adjustment” or undercoat and door edge guards.

Been waiting for the price to drop since February. My wait should be over soon since local dealers inventory is almost back to prepandemic level. I am from SoCal and I checked Toyota of Orange online inventory. Currently they have 40 DC in stock. May be I’ll wait for another month or 2 to pull the trigger on a dc V6 sr5 for my daily commute.

Yep, the one Costco dealer by me added on a $1200 “distributor fee” for absolutely nothing then acted like it was normal.

Good call. Unfortunately, Toyota of Orange almost always has a mark-up, even pre-pandemic and with regular inventory. In my research, I’ve found that Elmore Toyota, Longo Toyota, and Carlsbad Toyota in Carlsbad are the dealerships that do not have mark-ups or market adjustments pre, during, or “post” pandemic (if that’s a thing yet ). Best of luck!

Online inventory does not mean they have the vehicle in stock. Most of the time those vehicles already have buyers with deposits. I have been checking around (central TX) I know different states, and all vehicles are marked up everywhere.

Just picked up my 2021 TRD Off-Road Cement. Waited 1.5 months for delivery straight from the factory. Think I filled out the below right, but also added my purchase agreement. Put a $1000 deposit down to hold the vehicle. Will note used car market is going super hot right now. Originally purchased my Crosstrek for around $25,000 and got several offers including Carmax valuing at $18,600.

Year, trim, color, transmission, bed: 2021, Off-Road, Cement, Automatic, DCLB
    2. MSRP (before dealer add-ons): $37,530
    3. Options: Technology Package, LED Interior Light Upgrade, Cargo Bed LED Lights, Predator Pro Step Bar, Toyoguard Platinum, Paint Protection Film (Hood & Door Package, Weather Tech Floor Mats - $3,673
    4. Cost of add-ons:
    5. Price before Tax Title License (TTL), including incentive/rebate, plus Delivery/Processing/Handling: $42,378
    6. Discount: 1-(#5/#2)*100=% off MSRP): $3,353.00 (Autonation Savings)
    7. Incentive (rebate/customer cash): $0
    8. Price Out The Door (OTD): $41,378.00

Was lucky when bought ours. Walked into dealer to see when they could get an Offroad in by. They had just received delivery on 1 Sport and 1 Offroad. Well it left with me.

    MSRP was 39,995

With the Eckbond treatment and extended warrenty, taxes and title, paid right at 46,695.

Got a good one for yall. Not sure if I got lucky or what. I think my local dealership is gaming the system. I've been checking all over the northeast, not bothering to check with my local dealer, and didn't find what I wanted. I said screw it and I'll allocate one from my local dealer. I don't care if I have to wait 3 months for it to come in. I thought it was odd they had so many Tacoma on display. I told the rep what I wanted and she said hold on let me look on our lot I think we might have a few. She comes back and they had 3...yes 3 Barcelona Red DC AT 5' sitting in fleet. She drives us down to the back lot and they had more than 12 new fleet Tacoma's not including the Tacoma's they are selling. One of the 3 Barcelona's had predator steps which I wanted. All these "fleet" trucks are brand new(some still had wrap on them), no miles with stickers on the front that say "not for sale." Seems like they are buying fleet vehicles holding them and selling them. But, only caveat to that is you need to wait 4 months for it to clear fleet status so the dealership can technically sell it. Mine was registered in June so I just need to wait till Sept. I put a deposit down and will get a call beginning of Sept. to go in and finish things up. For now the truck just sits on the lot with a sold sticker.

The not so fun part is once it's out of fleet it's technically a used vehicle because the dealership registered it. The % rate on the loan with be in question as it goes from new to used. I told her what new rates I was getting and she said they can match those rates. We will see. if I don't get those rates and they don't work with me over that I have no prob. walking way. They are already getting MSRP and few bolt on from me. Good thing is one of the finance guys is friends with my father.

I did use Tacoma inventory spreadsheet to scour the truck I wanted but came up empty in all instances.

Year, trim, color, transmission, bed: 2021, Sport, Barcelona Red, Automatic, DCAB

Since it is now considered a used vehicle have them sell it to you Toyota Certified . That's fair because you will be considered the second owner .

Yeah, I don't mind. It only has 3 miles on it. It'll sit on the lot till sept. and I will go over every 2 weeks to check on it, dealer is close to me. The won't use it for fleet now since internal to the dealer it's considered sold. Barcelona Red is so hard to get. Crazy they had 3.

When I bought mine they had a leftover that they put on the used side , discounted it and certified it . I almost bought it but wasn't the truck I wanted . The certified will get you 100,000 on the driveline and some other goodies .

From what I gathered, this was in Utah, Union Pacific railway. Happened last Friday. I'm not sure where it was headed.
My Army Green TRDOR is supposed to get delivered here to Denver this week, and I read about this train derailment yesterday. I thought that my Tacoma might be on this train because the Tacoma was built in Baja California. I figured this Utah route might be the delivery route. Anxious all day yesterday, then I called my dealer this morning to check the status and they told me mine is leaving Texas this morning to be delivered in the next day or so. Such a relief, but hella sad for all the others that have been waiting for theirs for the past couple months.

That's correct, it was in Utah. I'm glad to hear that your new truck wasn't part of it.

Pretty crazy story, actually. The train was going 60 MPH when it crossed a bridge that goes over a (normally dry) wash in the middle of no-where. There was a flash flood and the water inside the wash was over the top of the bridge. The train basically hydroplaned and left the rails, causing all of the locomotives and several cars to overturn. The cars at the front that overturned were full of Toyotas and Nissans. There were 3 employees on the train, and they had to climb up onto the wreckage to avoid being swept away in the floodwaters. It sounds like they had to ride it out for hours before rescuers were able to get to the scene and save them.
