Rusting out for replacement and impact replacement are not in the same ballpark, league, sport, etc.

had a car once with a “slight” impact that had nothing but problems with.
    Dumped her so fast…

No it isn’t, you have no idea who is working on your vehicle. Most repairs are never up to factory levels which is why original/unrestored vehicles fetch the highest prices.

sure getting a new set of headlights vs a set that’s 10 years old is beneficiary.

but getting a fubared frame replacement as better than new ?! I can see a rusted frame but one that was turned into a pretzel … no fucking way…

No unrestored/survivor vehicle has EVER fetched the priced of a rotisserie restored vehicle with the exception of maybe 5 historical vehicles like the Bullitt Mustang.

Two bent frame ends equal a pretzel? I've seen worse get put back on the road.

Also....where my truck was fixed....it was a Toyota certified repair. It was done to assembly line specs..and guaranteed for the life of the truck as long as I own it. 26k miles later, I haven't had one issue withy truck....and they actually fixed my squeaky leaf spring bushings too.

As far as I'm concerned, they returned my truck to me as good as when I got it intially.

I've done frame jobs....and not just for rust, but just to clean up and replace body mounts, lines, ect. If you know what you're doing, document and properly refasten everything, it's just as good as new.

Curious on the outcome of this one.

I got rear ended in 2017 in my 2017 4Runner after only making 4 payments on it. I was hit by an uninsured motorist. I ended up paying the deductible as well as come cash for the rental cause of Toyota whole approach on manufacturing.

Never got the diminished value cause the dude who hit me didn’t have insurance so couldn’t claim diminished value against my own insurance company.

Frame was bent and twisted in the rear ladder frame but they managed to cut, weld and hammer to fit it all and it was covered by insurance.

This on a new vehicle with less than 3k miles on it and 4 payments.

I know there are hacks out there....I'm not speaking about them. I'm talking about people who care about their job and quality of their work....like the two gentlemen that fixed my truck. They busted ass to get my truck fixed right, and then even detailed it themselves as well. I gave each of them a nice gift card and some cash for their great job.

I know the types you're talking about...as I've passed on vehicles that I found repairs like that on after closer inspection.

Vehicles are sold as is, unless the buyer opts for an extended warranty. There's no cooling off period. I suppose a really good attorney could re-coup something considering they'll take the hit the next time they sell it or trade it in, but the legal fees would far surpass the depreciation. My advice, don't buy used unless you're willing to take the risks. Buy new or lease.

I just found out the truck will be fixed. Estimated repairs are up to 18,000. They have already ordered the new bed and frame. Once they get the new frame in they said it will take about another month. How do i go about filing a diminished value claim?

to file a dimished value claim you need to go through the at fault party's insurance company. if you are at fault then are you are not entitled to a diminished value claim afaik.

If I rear ended my brother's truck, I would just give him a check to cover the diminished value and add in another $1K or so for causing all the hassle. I guess I'm just kinda weird.

From the bit of internet searching I did, the cost of the frame alone is $4,300 to $4,900 depending on which model Tacoma you have. It's the weeks and potentially months worth of labor that racks the bill up. I'm guessing just the frame replacement could cost in the $12,000 to $15,000 range....then you've got the box on the back and potential damage on the lower cab! So you're probably looking at repairs in the $20,000 plus range. Sorry this happened to your almost new Tacoma, but happy you and your brother weren't significantly injured!

California doesn't have a set total loss threshold. It can go up to 100% damage to value, but the insurance company will typically total it at 75%.

Tell your brothers insurance carrier that you want to file the Diminished Value (DV) claim. They can guide you on what info they will need to provide you with a DV settlement.
