I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
The shields are there also for your high beams when you hit the high beams your bulbs move back exposing more of the bulb.

with the shield on how is any light going to reflect off the bottom of the light when I use my highbeams.

the shield was giving me some weird/shitty cutoffs.
but it does need to go back on.. i guess

With the bi-xenons, when you hit the highbeam, the bulb will move out of the way of the shield and thus produce the "highbeam"and when you release it, the bulb will move back to its natural state. Like I said before, the bulbs came with the shield for a reason so use it... or not, it's up to you. If you want to be discourteous to your fellow drivers then go ahead and leave the shield off.

One more thing... HIDs produce an arc of light rather than lighting a filament up in a regular halogen light and therefore the center of the light of an HID bulb will be in a different area from that of a halogen bulb. The headlight housings on Tacos were meant for halogen bulbs, and not for PnP HID kits and that's why you have the glare all over the place when HID kits are used. The shield on the bulb is used to decrease the amount of glare produced by the HID bulb.

Not trying to threadjack but I've been wanting to order HIDs for a while but was worried about blinding people and getting a ticket. With the shield you guys are talking about is the light cutoff similar to the way it would be in a projector housing?

I understand, but witht he shield on, I can't see with my highbeams.
Maybe I'll put the shiled back on, but take off the end cap part of it? what do you think?

No, they would not be the same. If you want to do it properly then you'd need to do a projector retrofit. The cutoffs for projectors are crisp and clean and the difference between PnP kits and retrofits are literally night and day difference. Do a search for retrofit and you can see for yourself. Even with the shield on these PnP kits you'll still have some glare, but not as much as with them off.

If you can't see with your highbeams then you probably installed them wrong then. I would not suggest taking the end off of it.

There's some anecdotal evidence on this forum to prove otherwise.

From reading various HID threads on this forum as well as others, doing research on the internet and just tinkering with my PnP kit.

No, I haven't seen pics or heard of anyone doing so, but I guess you could give it a try and let us find out what your results are.

Shield on or off aiming this way that way aint gonna make a difference. PNP HID kits are not for standard halogen housings. You will have glare if your lenses are not clear, and if they are clear you will have hotspots no matter how much adjusting you do. I got tired of feeling like a douche blinding other people so I removed my HID's. Retro or go home!

I cut off the smallest rubber part. so the part that goes around the connection point. then I pushed it out toward the eng.. then I put the plastic piece that comes with the HID on the part that got cut..
