At this point I hope it would be a fuel issue. Although it's not uncommon to see a cylinder or two drop out suddenly on the 3.5L of that vintage. I'd say he could borrow my fuel pressure test kit, but I'm about 19 hours from Fargo...

 

My Dad had a Saab station wagon similar to below, 3 cylinder 2 cycle engine. You put a quart of genuine Saab engine oil in the fuel tank with every fill up.

I remember laying in the cargo compartment and it seemed huge. Seeing one as an adult the car is not even 5 feet high and barely 5 feet wide.

Dusting this project off. Going to mock it up, sand it down, then it’s off to my (non-pro-bono) powder coater.

Here is the 1966 that hangs out in my garage. Mine is only a six seater so no seats in the way back. 56,000 original miles.

Yours must be the “aerodynamic brick” model, because mines just the “brick” model.

 

Saw a Taco pulling one of these (4,065 lbs dry) looking like the wife’s onboard with an upgrade. Might not be one of these, but she’s intrigued with the permanent sleeping arrangements, as we hate setting up and tearing down every morning/evening. I’m intrigued with the aerodynamic shape and lower profile.
I really want to pull my current rig onto a scale dry, and loaded, to give me an accurate number. My current rig is rated 4,000 dry, but I don’t trust that with the numerous additions I’ve done over the years.

You’re probably right BUT I never had fun towing it…. People around you never cared about what you’re towing or that you want to do the speed limit and keep space between you and the car in front of you. Then comes the ride HOME….. as fast as possible!! Get out of my way!

 

If I learned one thing from Ricky Bobby, it’s that drafting works well, just got to find the right trucker that’s not too aggressive and hang on tight!

 

Your current camper is beyond cool, hard act to follow.

Yeah, the wife and I agree, but the cool factor is wearing off and practically is setting in. Kind of like how I went from a supercharged, 5 speed tire burning coupe, to a 6 speed semi-practical X-Runner, to a 4 door, automatic truck… plus, it’s almost too much attention at the campground, I find myself getting slightly aggravated when I’m setting up and tearing down with a crowd around. (Literally 6 people at one time watching me set up this last time) I’m always nice and stop what I’m doing but it’s an attraction for sure! If I was at a car show I’d love it, but when trying to get away and be with family it’s somewhat different. I almost feel guilty. If that makes any sense.

Sweet Jesus! Don’t show my wife that! I’ve got all of those towing accessories but really seeing the realistic comfortable weight and size I’m sticking around 4,000lbs and that seems to exclude any slide out options.
The way I look at it, I loose the porch and cool look and gain more real estate & permanent sleeping arrangements. Plus, my current rig doesn’t have an awning, so that’s a win in my book.

 

I honestly thought of making an informational plaque, kind of like guys do about their cars at car shows, with interior photos and whatnot. I even thought about a QR code to a site with photos and information, lol.

 

I did like my camper. A basic camper with one slide. Towed it twice a year. 400 miles total. That’s it. No incidents except getting a nail in one of the tires. :-/ packing up before a storm and noticed a tires was low… seen a screw staring right at me… wtf! Calling for heavy downpours. Jacked axle up. Removed tired and plugged it: filled her back up and off we went… yes I was soaked by the time we left. Other than that, We all enjoyed camping in it.
