I did some quick skimming and it seems like you do not need to upgrade the booster from what I see? I remember hearing that the tundra upgrade was fairly pointless unless you upgraded the booster or something along those lines. Maybe that was for when people did a disk conversion on the rear but I cant remember it has been a long time. Is it worth upgrading the booster etc? I have 35x12.5R17LT and long travel etc so it can be a lot to stop especially going fast in the desert or even on the freeway etc

Same here, I did not upgrade the booster or master cylinder. It is on my list though. I have been running it 3-4 years now.

I did this on my 2010 DCLB and didn't touch the booster or master cylinder either. It made a hell of a difference.

Every truck is different and so is everyone's preference. I didn't notice much of a difference in the pedal. Maybe start with one and see if you want to do the other.

Would a different, presumably upgraded, proportioning valve potentially fall under the catagory of not required or something that should be investigated?

Our trucks do not have proportioning valves. That function is built into the master cylinder and or abs unit

    What hasn't been modified?
Do you have a vacuum booster or electronic booster? if electronic, no upgrading needed.
vacuum booster, you’ll need to upgrade so you can push more fluid for the same pedal movement.

I belive it is vacuum. From talking with a few other people my first thing to try is a new master then go from there.

Is everyone buying all new parts?
If you're buying used calipers, what rebuild kit are you using?

    Used dust covers?

New master not needed if only doing the front calipers. Did this upgrade on my brother's mid-travel '05 w/35" tires. Definite braking improvement.

BE AWARE REGARDING CLEARANCE ISSUES- this kit will work on 17" wheels and the top edge of the caliper will clear the "tire" side of the rim; however, it is VERY possible that the back side of the wheel spokes (or whatever your center webbing looks like) can hit the outer edge of the caliper.

SUGGEST you *lightly* tighten the lug nuts and then spin each wheel to check for interference before torqueing them. We had to put 3/4" wheel spacers on his hubs to move the wheels out in order to clear the calipers.

New master might be the cause of my braking issues so want to try that before i upgrade. Maybe my brakes are fine just a bad master.

I will always recommend this anytime the front brakes are replaced. I've been rolling with the GX brakes for over a year.

It was definitely time for the swap.

Not a massive size difference in the GX470 rotors vs the Tacoma, but you for sure feel it while stopping.

I bought all the parts listed in this thread.

As a bonus the bigger brakes fill out the 17'' wheels nicely.

Were the 17" wheels that were very close to the "wheel spokes" Toyota OEM wheels? Any chance that you know what the offset of your wheels were?
If not, could you post a picture of the wheels - please!

    Thanks in advance

Also interested but I think we're out of luck with the hydro master.
