It would take a lot of money to get you more power out of NA and a lot of labor work to get said results as well.

320-330HP at the wheels is about nominal on the majority of these boosted setups. Mine included after doing a few more breathing and parasitic reduction mods to it. They are fun to drive, but even more of a dream to use when you are towing. 2200 lbs feels like nothing in comparison to when trying to tow that weight in NA form.

They are worth it to mod, but it takes quite a bit of things to really get it to these wheel numbers.

If you want to squeeze the most out of NA you will always benefit from tuning. Mods or not. 181-191 wheel horsepower seems to be about the norm for NA in full OE form and the tunes are pretty nasty from the factory, especially 2012 and up. Everyone can benefit from a clean up and I will never tell anyone differently.

Thing is, HPTuners doesn't care to impress folks with dynos because they market these products to people who understand the effectiveness of a tune and know what their software is capable of. Despite us being part of their beta section, their access to our PCMs parameters is pretty flipping vast.

Here's my truck accelerating if you want to see what a "tuned N/A Tacoma" is like. It's on 87 Octane and has the junk listed in my signature if you care about mods.

    Fast? No. :)

I'm running a modified TRD intake (so it fits around the rerouted 2012+ A/C lines), cam gears, y-pipe, and Borla exhaust along with JustDSM's 91 tune. On 33's with bolt ons, it's no rocket ship, but gets waaaaaaaaay better fuel economy and runs down the road well enough that I'm not wishing I could LS swap or supercharge it every ride. I don't need dyno numbers to verify it's running better and more efficiently.

awesome setup. i’m sure you have made improvements.

dyno is an excellence tool. especially to compare setups of different parts and pieces.

since there is a great tuning solution, i’m ready to jump in. any idea the best combination of basic bolt-ons for max mid to top end hp? are there products other than TRD & URD that i should consider?

would be nice to see dyno comparisons before dropping $3-4k on parts and software.

    - cai
    - long header
    - off road y pipes
    - exhaust

Were you the one that plasti welded a cutout for the intake? I was able to fit it without modification and relocated the SAI. I recall someone doing that.

Yeah...that was me. How'd you manage to fit it without modification? I found those AC lines to be very much in the way on my 2014.

Posted this in the dyno thread, but since it pertains to @JustDSM and his HPTuners tune I felt it should be in here as well. Made a dyno run on the TRD tune, and then another after the HPTuners tune. No other modifications were made so this is strictly a tune comparison. Current mod list is in the first post of my build page here.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/my-slow-2015-build-thread.387762/

Disclaimer: JustDSM said my truck was running leaner than most with the TRD tune, so he had less room to play with the numbers. Therefore I would believe that sets my gains as a low baseline.

End result: 310.7whp and 324.8wtq. So a gain of 16.9whp and 4.8wtq from the tune alone. Gained hp and tq throughout the entire rpm range, but had the biggest gains between 2.5-3.5k rpm and above 4250.

With the tune my a/f ratios are actually safer up to 4.5k rpm (they were around 12) before going rich, and now sit right around 11.5 throughout. Can't complain about having a safer tune while also picking up some extra power!

A/F ratio comparison between the TRD tune vs HPTuners/JustDSM's tune. This does a great job of showing how little he had to work with, and how well he stabilized the ratios throughout.

I went ahead and preordered. They have an upgrade path for those of us who have the MPVI2 already. You send in your existing dongle and they send you back the new version for $189 I believe it was.
