I don't know...I'm kind of past billionaires launching themselves into space and then having one of their employees pin astronaut wings on them.

Gus Grissom > Jeff Bezos IMHO....at least if we're judging which one had/has the "Right Stuff".

Agreed. Speaking to the choir on that one. I was advocating for Space Flight Particant a page or two back. Same with the VG folks except for the Flight Crew.

Eh at least his money bought a lot of R&D on BE-4 ... if that ever comes out.

True, but if that’s what it takes to get things moving they can have their moment. Besides, if it were me the ride would mean more(signified by the badge)because of what it took to make it happen so any other or future passengers will look at their badges through that lens regardless of what you or I think of them. Gus went through far more training but in the end did less to create that outcome than B&B did on these two ventures. Back then it was perceived as an accomplishment of the nation. In terms of risks involved they certainly aren’t remotely comparable though. I think history will accord each their proper places.

I wonder if we won't be sending dead bodies to Mars first. Still no great solution to the solar wind, especially if a storm happens, yet without prohibitive mass or energy consumption.

Doubtful. Bezos got what he wanted. Blue origin will go under in the next 3-6 months now. I'm pretty sure he only made the company for that one ride.

Ideally the path would place as much of the vessel as possible aft of the crewed section either blocking, absorbing(solar panels), or getting a push from the solar wind and lower energy radiation with just enough off axis acceleration to match the orbital velocity of Mars then adjusting whatever is necessary to achieve stable orbit. The less time spent getting there the better but with so little atmosphere it’s not like your safe once there. SPF 1000 every day.
If they do decide to use staged refueling pods those would have to have asymmetric launch periods and coasting velocities to be able to match speeds with the starship which would have different velocities during different legs otherwise too much fuel would be wasted doing brake/boost maneuvers docking. There are so many ways it could go south either in a hurry or painfully slowly.

Yeah, after hearing him talk, it did seem all about him.
It’ll be a shitshow if they do go under- there’s quite a few government and private entities waiting on the BE-4.

Unrelated, here’s the schedule for today:
